Hi all......moving and packing je suis l'expert.....not :rotfl:. Home is in absolute chaos and Spitalfields studio is too small.:(
This week I cried on the 'phone to my mother for the first time in years...she's not the type of mum you cry to. Not meaning she's unsympathetic but has a very practical 'get on with it' mindset.
I am devastated to be back living in SE London F/T...utterly broken up about it. The phrase 'What do you don't see, you don't miss'' comes to mind. I got to live a different type of life alongside different types of people and, whilst I am back in my 'hometown/suburb' so should feel connected as all freinds and family are nearby, I don't feel anything but sadness for the loss of the lifestyle that we created elsewhere. I knew it was a borrowed one but I didn't think I would hate being back in the melee F/T so much.
The bus journey yesterday flagged it up as there were 4 kids from hell on it. I just wanted to turn around and tell to shut the f up...loud, inarticulate, spewing rascist abuse at half the bus (it is a very diverse area)...but I didn't as I didn't want to get stabbed.
Anyway, work is just full on and the Headroom buyer was a good result yesterday.
Today, OH and DD flew to Turkey with MIL and his stepfather (his dad is stable so won't die for a few weeks yet) and I had to stay behind. Maybe I can get a flight next Thursday if I can get everything done in time.
Spent some time in W1 location today and I felt so 'battery' and 'sausaged machined' it almost choked me.....but the 'organic' job we created couldn't survive (after 20 yrs) so I have to accept that it is a sign of the times I guess. If I don't trade in the mainstream ..I don't trade at all.
And food shopping...OMG how depressing. It's all ASDA from now on as there is nothing niche and nice that is convenient and walkable to.
Son is at Glastonbury and I am watching Petshop boys live right now cos I have telly again.0 -
FC, do you have to be London based? There are a few designers living here in SW, smaller and bigger names....I understand there is one in new village too (and wanted our house). Now that your kids are almost ready to embark on adult life can you too think about where else you could work/still be close enough?0

Got to get DD on her way 1st.
She will either do A Levels locally or Legal secretarial in Bromley. She is also desp to work P/T for us in W1 location (seems to be the dream P/T job for under 20's) so we have to be London based. I know and accept that.
I have A Plan. LifePlan no 79 (ii) sub section d.
Finally, the £££ are flowing in so, if I can keep it up (without popping and having a stroke), we will be mortgage free in max 3 years time.....DD will then be 19 and we will have choices.
OH is a very pragmatic, accepting type of bloke so doesn't share any of my angst. He is very home is where the heart is...so where we all are (and the cats) is where he is content. It has always been me pushing for 'better' and refusing to accept what was meant to be 'our lot in life' and our 'place'...does that make sense?
Unfortunately, I need some 'inner pain' to create. This sounds a bit up my backside, so in derelict rental, the discomfort and cold really helped my work.
After just 1 weekback in a grim London suburb, the creative juices are already starting to flow at top speed........so maybe things are meant to be?
BTW I forgot how good the Petshop boys are....don't think I 've listened to their stuff for 20 odd years.0 -
I'm hearing it in stereo....the window is open. Can't quite make it out though....0

Is it chaos when Glasto is on in your area? I have never been....but I don't think I could handle no shower and the loos for 3 days.
My brothers best ever gig was there many years ago.....36,000 in his tent I think. The fee was £300. David Bowie was on at the same time and I remember watching it on TV and he kept having to pause as the drum and bass tent was going off and too loud.0 -

The trick is to go in a helicopter:o;):D
Yes, its usually chaos, for a long while..deliveries etc he preceeding fortnight, then the week is pretty pants...but (lir touches her head) its been REALLY good this year. Usually a drive to nearby town would take twenty mins, but can take a couple of hours, but wednesday was REALLY good. I think a combination of the football and the car park opening the day before meant the peak traffic was.....not there, just totally empty.
We occasionally find people in the field afterwards, trying to walk home/to London.
We use the other train line not Castle cary/Paddington (CC is the main station for Glastonbury...the coaches pick up from there...) but its pretty hellish if you use that, and for some people that is a daily commuter train.
The changes any way on A 303 in the last ten years are pretty significant...more weekenders etc, mean its no longer the clear run out it once was. This sort of week is less bad..(until Sunday ) because they don't use the road on Friday. Bank holiday weekends/ Easter etc are worse now.0 -

I really really would like a helicopter. I think my health (if not my wallet) would preclude me flying, but I'd love to, and I know its dangerous. I have a thing about Bell 47 helicopters. I think they are fantastic looking.....0
