Sometimes, you can keep bees at a local allotment... depending on agreement. If you don't have local food that might be the best.

I like the concept of bees, I don't like being stung. Did you see the victorian farm program... where the bee 'climbed' the blokes trousers... classic.

    No I didn't!

I think longer term bees will be useful...if no food for them unlikely to be many about for pollinating for us...we have a few trees, and a couple of lilacs. That's it. So I think I'll get started on a small patch of garden (can't do much because eventually there will be needed access for the structural work to be done) and get some food established for them first.

Hoping to meet some local small holders because might have a grass glut the first year and would be please to share for future favours IYSWIM.

If so, I thought you may be interested in this article http://www.bis.gov.uk/news/topstories/2010/May/letter-to-vcs-and-principals which includes Vince Cable's letter to universities regarding reducing the deficit (&, it says, universities role within this). There might be a little more info for you here http://www.info4local.gov.uk/documents/publications/1601947

Thanks :) But we already had an idea it was happening. a lot of the major cuts will affect oxbridge as one of the biggest to be slashed is the historic buildings fund.

Funding for research will be cut (the increases during the Labour govt were never expected to last) and there will be a phd serving at a mcdonald's near you soon :D

The worst thing is that a lot of universities have pared down what they deem non-essentil services, ie maintenance staff on site so we now have to pay hefty money for external contractors which we can't afford to do because the grants are being cut. So not only are staff going to be affected, essential equipment will be reduced.

It's completely topsy turvy at the moment and you know things are bad when the wellcome trust change their funding criteria and the amounts that they will fund :(

    LIR is buying, not selling.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Ahh! I see.

    Well, congratulations all the same.

It's tough for both buyers and sellers at the moment.

Thanks for the correction - that was really nice of you, speaking up for LIR in her absence.

Nobody's responded since though so what's happened to the "nice" people.

Quite selective as to who and when to be nice.

All the more reason to stuff the fluffy ducks and all this pretence

N0.2381 - You're letting the side down - what about the rain today, good for the garden, much needed water.

Thanks Bouche. I'm very excited. ATM I feel like the good/bad things going on are a reminder that life is never unbridled joy, nor totally hopeless despair but rather a balance of good and bad always..

This ''nice'' person has been out today :) Being nice (walking smeone else's dogs, collecting someone who can't drive from the train).

Extremely grateful for the rain: our ground is dry and cracked but everything is still green ATM. Hopefully everything will grow like a jungle in the rain.
