    Debt-free and Proud!
We spent loads on the garden in the last fortnight too..but it does look nice (especially if the chickens don't trash it).. like to think its a good spend...a productive spend DFSD!!

Also first potatoes in the allotment, salad such as rocket, spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes etc etc all growing away, picked up free onion sets from a friendly lottie neighbour and another big bag of winter salad picked....all good plus OH started a bee keeping course..maybe honey one day??!!

Its a good way to spend less on the food shop..

  • Yes, definitely a productive spend Brizzle. :) I can't wait until our potatoes, fruits and salads come through, you really can't beat home grown produce can you.
  • The sofa payment has come out today, leaving the balance now at £515. I'm looking forward to that being paid off in September to free up another £103 a month.

We're overdrawn today - by £45. :( The garden spends and the fact that we have friends staying with us temporarily at the moment has made it a bit of an expensive month, so, it's about damage limitation at the moment. We won't need much in the line of groceries for the rest of the month, except some fruit & veg, bread & milk etc. We will, however, need to fill the car up with petrol again which is about £40. :( There are still a few bills to come out too, so it looks like we're gonna be about £150 overdrawn again, if not more.:(:(. Hopefully my overtime and the £100 less we're paying to the debts will cover that, but I will scout around for anything I can ebay in the meantime. I'm hoping to do a car boot sale next month if I can borrow a table, so that may help a little next month.

May's going to be an expensive month for us too. We have a wedding to go to (which thankfully we're staying at my parents house for so no need for hotel costs), but will need to cost in a wedding present, some shoes (as I don't have any suitably coloured 'posh' shoes) and hubby's suit dry cleaning. Plus petrol to get there and back (it's 250 miles away). We also have our bargain break booked and paid for (was £45 for 5 days on the grabbit board a while back ;)). It's self catering so we can take a lot with us, but will need to budget for petrol and a bit of spending money etc. ARGH - there's always so much to consider.

    Hi DFSD

You sound like you are having a nice time at the moment and enjoying life. There is more to life than saving money and I think you are doing well, particular as you are spending on essentials to sort out the garden and there is always more money spent when there are guests around.

I can empathise with money going out as fast as it comes in, though! My so-called lucrative opportunity wasn't actually lucrative when I read the small print! However, I did have a small bet on the National and, for the first time ever, backed the winner :j. I was out for a meal yesterday with some well off people and it was my turn to pay so at least that was covered with my winnings. It has also paid for a treat to the theatre.

I think I can meet my house saving target this month. I need to find about another £100, but it is only the 13th so there is time for some money making.

    Have a nice day!

  • Hi Chocs,

Yes, I've had a lovely couple of days thanks - the sunshine REALLY helps as I spend most of my time outside when the weather's nice. Everybody seems so much happier when the sun shines, don't you think?
It must've all caught up with me though as last night hubby was in bed by 8.30pm as he couldn't stay awake, and I followed shortly afterwards at 9pm - we both slept for 9 hours or so too, so must have been tired!

Well done on the winning horse too! The friend who is currently staying with us also backed the winner and won £100 or so. We, typically, backed the donkey it seems...

I had a little scout around last night and have found one item I could possibly list on ebay. I'm sure there's a few more things if I have a good look, I'll try and do that tonight and take photos if I find anything.

I made up a batch of pasta sauce last night, ready to mix with some pasta (when I buy some tonight) and freeze individually for lunches. Will help save the pennies a little and has used some bottom-of-the-fridge veg up. :)

    Have a good day all

  • Just had an email requesting my details so they can send the £10 music survey reward for the questionnaire I completed a while back. It should be received within 28 days. :) £10 free, thank you very much.

Just had my lunch but didn't bring much with me today and I'm still hungry. It's a good job there's no shops around here and/or I have no money on me!

I might start some sewing again tonight. I had a lovely book for my birthday about making gifts and decorative items for the home which I'd like to make a start on. The day is so lovely though that I'd like to get out in the garden if possible, even though there's not much to do out there at the moment.

well done on the tenner, always good to get something for free
  • Totally agree YB!

I've just taken a look at my Quidco account and it seems a couple of transactions have been received and will be paid at the end of the month, so that's another £31 coming our way. :D It will all help the overdraft!
  • The scratchcards have been good to me this morning! £5 on Butl!ins bingo ,:j, 50p on TAB and 5 spins on JJoy, resulting in 59p. :D I also earned £3 last night for another survey which should hit the paypal account within the week.

Have also spent some money though... we realised we did need some storecupboard basics, laundry powder etc. after all, as well as fruit and veg, so we had an online delivery last night which came in at £47. However, they were a little late arriving, so the delivery driver gave us a £10 off our next shop voucher. :)
We also need petrol, which hubby is going to get today, but I have 'instructed' him not to fill it up completely, just to put £20 in there and we'll refill after payday again.

    I'm just glad it's Friday... :)

Yay on all the little extras, they'll really add up. Whenever my shopping is late I never shop with the right supermarket to get the £10 lol
