California or Miami?

Hey, I'm a British citizen but I've always wanted to live and work in California or Miami. Please can someone help me suggest how this would be possible i.e any good job websites and what I need to do to gain a visa etc?

Do you have any skills or qualifications that are in high demand in the US? Chances of getting a visa without family connections or a job to go to are very low.
