  • The saga continues....
Took out home insurance policy, declared everything that was required, policy arrived BUT with additional endorsements. Within 14 day cooling off period but cancellation charge huge.
How can they sell a policy and then attach additional endorsements?
Has anyone else had a similar experience? What can one do re this misrepresentation?
    Avoid them at all costs!!!

What's the saga? Is there more?

Not much info there to be able to offer any opinion or ideas. What where the additional endorsements? What was the cancellation charge etc etc

Not too shocking - looks like a simple human error (correct bit of paper in the wrong envelope)
  • Just tried to change my registered address as having to stay in holiday let due to unforeseen circumstances, told one-call it's for two months maximum and I could move at any time, they wanted me to pay £197 to change address (which would need to change again when I know where I'm going to live) they could reduce it to £160 but that was it. As I can't and won't pay that ludicrous fee they are cancelling my policy which I have to pay £55 for the privilege of my current unfortunate situation.

That's not a fee, that is the change in premium for moving to a new address. They look to have agreed to waive the actual 'fee'.
This is perfectly normal. If you change address the policy will be re-rated for the remainder of the term based on the new details. Every insurer out there does this.

Before you cancel ask them for the full cost of cancelling (the £55 they have quoted you looks to be just the cancellation fee)

You don't say what insurance this is for, but if you get NCD with it, bear in mind none will be awarded if you cancel.

Get quotes for y0ur new address, and do the sums to check whether cancelling is really cost effective

    2 choices:

    1) Use their formal complaints procedure which means you can escalate your complaints to the FOS after getting their reply (if you are unhappy with it), or they ignore you for 8 weeks. The FOS don't charge you for their adjudication.

    2) Cut your losses (and save wasting any more time on them) by cancelling now and swallowing the cancellation charges and go elsewhere.
  • Started a new policy with One Call 9/12/2015 - asked them to confirm that they had all the information they needed as I was going abroad for 2 months and would not have email or broadband. They assured me they had everything and would make a note on my screen to that effect. I had paid £15.61 deposit and first installment of £21.21 to be taken 29/12/2015.

Returned to a pile of mail and a letter from One Call stated that they had cancelled my policy on 31/12/2015 because .......I had not given them my driving license number and NI number! I stated they had not asked me and there was no email from them to that effect when I checked. They said there was!!! - and I had to now take ANOTHER policy with them. They tried to charge me £103.70 cancellation fee which I refused and they then agreed to waive £55 cancellation charge as long as I took out another policy with them - if not I would be pursued for £103.70.

I started another policy on10/02/2016 and again asked them if they had EVERYTHING they needed to have and did I need to sign another e-agreement with Ageas the insurance company and was told no! Actually I did have to as I spotted an email from Creation finance giving me 7 days to sign - I managed to do so on the 7th day at 11pm at night!!

I then called One Cal again and asked them to confirm that they now had everything they needed and was assured that they did - BUT they informed me that they were writing to me because they considered that I had given a false declaration and had a settled claim with an M&S policy I briefly took out - they also wanted another £35 "administration charge"! It was in fact an inquiry about the implications of claiming for damage to my front bumper by an unknown vehicle - Ageas again- I had a heated discussion with them and suggested they alter their terminology and differentiate between "settled claim" and "inquiry" - they agreed to inform One Call to make it clear I did not ever have a claim.

I was still withing my 14 day cancellation period - this ended today ...lasy week I got 2 letters from One Call - stated they were cancelling my policy because they ..... did not have my driving license or NI Number. The second letter state they were unable to collect the £103.70 cancellation fee on my first policy!!!!!! I called in an irate mood - the woman said it was a mistake and they had forgotten to take it off my file!!

I cncelled my policy with them today and have had to pay them to date - 1t policy which they cancelled - £15.61 plus £21.22 direct debit taken 3 days before they cancelled plus the £40.04 deposit on 2nd policy I was forced to take out plus £14.53 for something in order to cancel my policy. Compared to many of you fellow One Callers I probably haVe escaped lightly

HOWEVER.....I now have another problem - the fact that they cancelled my policy means I have to declare this on other applications to the question "Have you ever been refused insurance or had any policy cancelled or made void"- I have been refused cover because of this with Saga in spite of my explaining the circumstances to them Saga were very apologetic and although they removed the answer I gave in my online quote to allow a policy to be taken out they suggested that I speak to One Call and ask them about it. Their answer was dismissive - yes I should declare this cancellation and no they were not prepared to do anything about it! I have a 2 week cancellation window with Saga and will probably have to cancel and find another company - I would appreciate anyone able to tell me what to do about this erroneous cancellation which is now affecting my future ability to get car insurance!
