As satisfying as digging your heels in might be you would be much better off getting it resolved properly (and the cancellation removed from your record) by following the insurers complains procedure and referring to the FOS if still not happy

I informed my new company of the cancellation and it was not deemed important by them.

They explained basically they are only interested in cancellations if they were an attempt of fraud or something.

Cancellations for not providing NCB's, drivers licences and missed direct debits are not what they are worried about.

Did you get this in writing or take the name of the person who told you this along with the date and time?
  • Unfortunately I did not see this before insuring my wifes car on Sunday with the policy starting today.
Got home to find a letter stating that they were charging me an extra £119-62 which includes a £55 admin fee They say this is related to a change to a motoring conviction on a named drivers licence. They were given details on the online form I filled in and on the scan of my driving licence which has 3 points on it, an sp50 offence from Sept 2011.
Tried phoning them to cancel the policy but they shut at 17-30.
Filled in their online contact form asking them to cancel the policy under the 14 day distance selling regs.
Can the charge me a fee even though they seemed to have cocked up? And now after seeing this with all these negative reviews I dont want insured with them and my wife has just phoned up to renew with Esure.

The DSR don't apply to insurance. So expect cancellation charges when the cancellation goes through.

Read up in the policy on how to cancel, as they may insist the certificate is back in their hands before a cancellation can be effective.

Note that your NCD (assuming you have some) will be tied to this onecall policy till it's cancelled, so you may want to cancel the esure one till all this is resolved, as you have nil ncd to use on it.

Finally got rid of them today. Can't tell you how relieved I am! :D

Hi folks, after a bit of advice with this...

My dad joined onecall insurance earlier this month. Managed to sort out all the ncb and driving licence stuff OK, but he's received a letter to say he gave the wrong year for my mums date of birth, by 2 years. They now want to put up the premium and charge a £55 admin fee, and are charging him a total of £77.

He is very angry about this, so rang them yesterday. They said they couldn't give out the ombudsman's address, said he couldn't speak to a manager, put him on hold and then cut him off! He's not been able to contact them today, he's just stuck in a queue.

He wants to cancel the policy now, and his 14 day cooling off period ends tomorrow. Could anyone advise if he is able to cancel by email today, and would it be a valid cancellation once sent?

Absolute shower of a company. Would really appreciate anyone's input here! Thanks

Has he received documentation from them?

    From their website

    Can I cancel my policy?

Within the first 14 days from receiving your policy documents or the policy start date you may cancel your policy under the cooling off period.

This is provided that you cancel your policy and return all documentation within 14 days of receiving your policy documents or the policy start date, whichever is the latter, along with a written explanation.

All insurers have a right to apply a “policy time on risk” charge. One Call Insurance will apply a charge of £49 in addition to any insurer charges to cover the cost of setting up your policy in accordance with our Terms of Business.

After this period we will cancel your policy on a Short Rate basis, full details can be found in our main terms and conditions. Where you have received your certificate via email there is no need to return this however once the policy is cancelled it is no longer legally binding.

Where you have received your documentation through the post you must return all hard documentation including the Certificate of Motor Insurance and a written cancellation request. Please refer to our One Call Car Insurance Information Booklet for full Terms and Conditions.

Make a complaint and if they can't resolve it, they will give you the ombudsman's details.

The FOS details are readily available online but you need to complain to One Call first.

Its 14 days from the date he received them. If he wants to cancel, send them back - I would use RMSD but some would say just get proof of posting from the post office.
