but sugar you would be handing her bits of toast and finger food ontop of mush which is what they need, these ladies are only giving them mush and nothing else at all!

For those of you who BF - how many times does/did you 8 mo feed during the day? Don't know if I've just not been counting but C doesn't seem to have had many feeds the last few days. She's not overly fussed on meals either. She'll have some of what's on my plate, but doesn't seem to have any interest in breakfast at all. I've tried her with toast and porridge but she's not interested.

BTW, WHO recommend only mush till 9months, I know because I love to throw it at the 'OMG you will kill your child by weaning a singly hour before they are 6months old and also we do BLW which is the proper way because a book told us!' brigade.
You don't happen to have a link do you? (I would look in my file of printouts of such things but I appear to have lost it.) Unlike the UK advice, the WHO also considers it acceptable to wean before six months (but not after so I'm still bad according to them). IIRC, the AAP says you can start as late as nine months.

just nipped on and seen the weaning conversation, i have been speaking to a speach therapist today and she was talking to about weaning and that if you baby is not eating lumps/finger food by 9 months then it can actually slow down their speaking! he also said that most of the kids she visited stayed in spotless clean homes and as their mums didnt want a mess they kept the babies on much and couldnt understand why baby wouldnt talk or move on to finger foods, most of the children she was talking about were aged 2!!!!

I remember being told that in the early days of J's speech therapy. They told me to encourage him to eat stuff that's harder to chew, as they need to chew, to exercise the tongue/mouth to get it ready for talking!?!

V was a strange one though, she never really liked totally mushed stuff. She still doesn't like fromage frais/yoghurt unless I put some chopped fruit into it.

My friend borrowed V in the big pram to do her shopping so i've now got a really tidy living room, clean floors in here, hall, stairs, kitchen and bathroom. :D It's amazing how much you can do without a little person trying to help.

  • Hi Everyone

Looking for some advice on potty training. My son is 2years and 4 months, he will use the potty if its in the room with him, but doesnt tell me if he needs to go Does this just come with time?

He is running about in the buff bottom half unsure how to proceed to the toilet stage, should i wait till he tells me he needs to go more regular? I have took this week off but unsure about leaving the house as we had 3 accidents at the playgroup this morning.

    Thanks in advance

SS, there's plenty enough to feel guilty about... Don't ple other stuff on top!

Tia, have you tried brandy? Not to help the man-flu... Just to get you drunk like...

Nice to see you Feelie :)

I'm a mean Mummy because I won't let Aimee have yoghurt...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...

PP, I think around 7-9m they sometimes have a dip in bf... I know Aimee did and I worried she wasn't having enough... If you're offering it to her then you're doing your bit... If she was hungry, she'd have it :)

Biggeeangelpie I would ask occasionally, not too often... Just remind him that he's nekkid and going to the toilet with you might be a good idea... :)

    Ever?, or just right now?

Biggee - So he knows he needs to go because he'll use the potty if its there - but doesn't tell you he needs to go?!?
I did both of mine during the summer so they could be naked most of the time :).
He's still quite young, DD1 was 2yrs 8mths before we started (DS is a whole different story!).
I'd suggest keeping him nudey in the house, with the potty available, and take him to the loo when you go. But stick with pull-ups if you need to go out to minimise accidents (and washing).

6-8months (including the 8th month as the next is 9-11months) well mashed foods.

But the one I saw was different, will try to find it.

Anyway, Amber was nicking my dinner off my plate at 6months!

It's interesting that the mess seems to come up with regard to finger foods and BLW as I found weaning far less messy than I have observed standard weaning practice to be. I wonder whether the speech therapist meant actually consuming finger foods or just trying them - Alice was given finger foods from seven months and put them in her mouth but didn't actually consume stuff until ten months.

I'm not sure whether to feel guilty now for giving Molly mostly mush. She seems to babble fine and has noises that mean specific things though, so her communication is ok clearly but no proper words except mama and that's all I need her to say. Ever.
We'd only been giving Alice food at all for a couple of weeks when she was Molly's age and it doesn't seem to have done her speech any harm.

I'm looking for the post I made 'elsewhere' but it has been removed. And I can't find it on the WHO site. It was in a box diagram on the site and basically said that 0-6months, breast milk. 6-9months finely mashed or pureed foods etc (or thereabouts).

I only quoted it because it illustrated that a lot of information is conflicting and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Whoops - I went off to look for my file and didn't realise you'd already answered my question before I asked it. I've found a lot of the WHO information contradicts itself. I think this is partly because advice has changed over the years and partly because a lot of what is said is actually based on what they think people will actually do and varies for different parts of the world (so for example they advise cow's milk from nine months in the CAR because otherwise people are likely to water down the formula and it is better to have unwatered down formula for nine months and then switch than to have watered down formula for twelve months). Also a lot of it is guess work and keeps changing as they do new research.
