IIRC They have to be 9 months and over a certain weight to be forward facing.
When I went to Mothercare she said it's 9 months because thats when they can sit up, so I pointed out J could already sit up but apparently when they first sit up they use their tummy muscles but once they get to 9 months they use their back more and thats when its suitable for the forward facing seat.

When my friend went to Mothercare she said she was concerned her LO would be too big for current car seat before 9 months but the woman said it was very rare that babies got too big before then.

I got a rear and forward facing one which J is in now - Britax First Class Plus.
They can stay in them rear facing for longer (which is safer) than the carry style ones.

OK, so when something says birth to 4yrs or whatever that means it rear and forward faces then?? Wow, how ignorant am I? lol

    oops cross posted!

Glam, they are horrible right? I call it the Tragic. Though, mine is black, with alloys and lexus lights and blacked out windows, so when in a good mood, I call it my pimp mobile, Huggy Bear :D

Is the britax seat good? Does it recline in both forward and rearward positions? (thinking its the one I'll get so will just bombard you with questions)

I wanted to get that car seat when preg but OH vetoed in favour of the one that clipped onto the pushchair, not that I've worked out how to do that yet :p Is it good?

I'm eBaying whilst the little man sleeps - he's been down since about half 1, hoping he'll wake for around 5 for daddy time :p I cant believe how many of his clothes he's outgrown already, so sad :(

Just been reading up about car seat and definitely backwards facing for as long as possible. Just imagine the whiplash injuries they can have in forward facing seats  In Scandinavia (I think) they have backwards facing until 4 years old.

Link incase anyone is interested http://www.rearfacing.co.uk/facts.php
