I had a homebirth in March and would recommend it to anyone (was my first sprog). The level of care was superb - had a midwife and student midwife throughout and then another midwife arrived for the delivery. Had a birthing pool in the living room, so felt very relaxed (well, as relaxed as you can in labour!) It meant family could be around and once baby was born (8lb 2oz) I had a bath in my own bathroom and then had a midwife help me to get breastfeeding in my own bed - perfect really!!!
Literally the only drawback for me was that my gorgeous little boy doesn't have a hospital bracelet for his memory box! :)

    Hi Everyone,

Well I can officially join you all. Just got back from doctors. He didn't do another test, said that the home ones are so reliable and I have some other symptoms as well.

The baby is due on December 25th!! Can't believe I am going to have a Christmas Baby!!

re; the home birth stuff - no WAY! lol
im the complete opposite, i want as much medical equipment and expertise around me as possible!
infact, i recently found out that the maternity ward in my local hospital (where i had my DD) has become completely midwife run, no doctors available at all and if you run into any problems they stick you in an ambulance for the 16 mile journey to a real hospital where someone can help you or your baby in an emergency.
im really worried now and not sure i want to deliver there at all anymore,
last time in the final few minutes of labour i had to have an episiotomy and DD was tugged out with forceps, if i needed something similar this time they would be calling the ambulance... im pretty sure the last thing im going to want is to be moved and have a breakneck speed journey (which my OH cant accompany me on... he would have to follow in our car) when im at that stage.

im in a bit of a panic over it to be honest

aw CG don't panic about it - I think they assess you and work out if there are likely to be any problems and if so they'll send you straight to the main hospital so you'll be well looked after.

We've got the best of both worlds - ideally we'll have a home birth but if there are any problems the hospital is only 5 minutes away and has both a midwife lead unit and consultants to chose from. They were trying to close it - oh I'm sorry centralise services -which would have meant a 40 minute journey but thankfully that's been put on hold.

That is awful Sarah, no wonder you don't want to go back! My first was the opposite - I was refused pain killers. Had to demand gas and air three times before they caved in and got it, as for anything else when I got it it was too late to have any effect. That was diamorphine, the strongest they gave out. No epidurals or anything allowed!
Anyway, sorry I can't help about home birth but this time I am going to a different hospital that has a much better reputation. Have you got this option?

They were all born in different hospitals they keep closing them down!! I'm booked for the new hospital but its the only one with a maternity section (and I live in a major city) and I've heard that its a cattle market in there. I'm going to talk to my midwife about a home birth although I'm not supposed to make my next appointment til I'm 30 weeks (thats 10 weeks between appointments by the way which I'm sure is too long, they haven't measured my bump or anything yet!!) I'm going to make an appointment for next week. She was going to discuss my notes from my son's birth with me at the same time.
They took my signature away!!!!
