I've eaten loads and been fine...

a friend of mine who was overdue at a whole pineapple a day for a week to try and encourage baby to arrive and nothing... it appears to be a bit of a myth based on a chemical in green pineapple that no one would eat as it's unripe...

We were told at the NCT class that you'd need to eat two fresh pineapples a day to get enough of the chemical to bring on labour! Personally I think it's more likely to bring on diarrheoa before inducing labour at all, so I'd rather let nature take its course...

Just wondering if anyone knows how maternity allowance is paid? Is it weekly/monthly? Obviously weekly wld be easier to budget! Also being SE do I need to get from from jobcentre? MW won't let me get the MATB form till my next appointment at 24 weeks though I wanted to collect from surgery at 20. Is it hard to fill in? I'm hoping to start mat leave asap which I think is 29weeks? Sorry for all qu's!

  • When did everyone's bump start to show? Just looked at a pic of Myleene Klass in the paper who is apparently 4 months like me and she has a 'proper' bump! I'm yet to get mine although I am overweight slightly. Will it take longer for me? Feeling like I have a sad case of Bump Envy Syndrome! xxx

You can have it paid weekly or every 4 weeks. Just tick the relevant box on the form.

You can print off the form from the Job Centre website:
    http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Dev_008115.xml.html
It's not too bad to fill in.

You can't put in a claim until you are 26 weeks pregnant, which is why you can't have the MATB1 yet.

On mine I put I'm stopping work w/c 30th April. My claim has been approved and I've got another form to send in when I do stop work, and they'll pay me from then onwards.
Here I go again on my own....

It varies from woman to woman, depending on how your body is built and how you carry babies. Mine showed early, but I carry everything stuck right out in front. I look like a whale now :D

I was talking to my milk lady and her daughter is 24 weeks pregnant and still in size 8 jeans

it really depends, I thought mine was showing at about 16 weeks but friends said you couldn't tell I was pregnant unless I was wearing something very tight but by 20 weeks it was very obvious. I'm a size 8-10 and I think it does make some difference what size you are but mostly it's about whether your bump is all out front or spread about more.
