  • I was disappointed at there being only 1 heartbeat :o but yes I think I understand what you mean about denial - I find it very weird telling people and I'm not that keen to do so. I've told maybe 4 people at work, and don't have much interest in telling anyone else. Maybe part of me still expects it to go wrong, or maybe it is a weird denial.

With the scan I found it hard to grasp that what was on the screen was inside ME. The sonographer(?) even showed me my bladder and it didn't click with me that that's MY body. Weird. The whole thing is weird.

We have a long time to get used to it - a few weeks ago I was wanting time to pass quickly, to get past 12 weeks, to have a bump etc but now I'm quite happy to let time pass slowly... :)

Edit: I AM excited, don't get me wrong, but October seems so far away, and I'm happy with that :)

Gemma - I felt sort of bloated for a bit, then convinced I had a tiny bump and then it went away - if that makes sense. And none of my trousers fit properly and haven't for a while - but I'll never know if it was pregnancy or Christmas indulgence  Really trying not to over-eat and I don't think I am, but I'm having a terrible craving for crisps so it's no wonder I feel fat :o

Eels100 :rotfl: that all sounds like such fun! Don't know if it gets better, but you might get used to it? Although btw, there was that programme on TV where people had a diet of raw veg and fruit and wind was a huge side effect of that. Eat some junk food girl!
I'm gonna stop complaining about my lack of symptoms.

Although why oh why do I keep waking up at night? With weird pain sensations - and I'm always confused - what now? need a wee? was I lying wrong? did I squish a vein or artery? is the baby okay? Aaarrgghh.

This is the thing, Agutka, when people ask how I'm keeping I'm merrily smiling and saying that I feel fine and I've been really lucky - but when I think about it I get home and collapse into a heap of sweat, farts and fat ankles! What am I doing - I should be eating MacDs and telling everyone I meet about how much I'm suffering! :rotfl:

It's not that bad, baby can reach up above my belly button with its pointiest extremities now, which although uncomfy sometimes (for uncomfy read 'vomit-inducing'!) is fab - it's really in there and it's really doing the macarena or whatever it is they do that requires such flailing around. Complaining for the day is now over - thank you! :rotfl:
  • Hi all and congrats to all the newbies (or newbies to The List!).

Does anyone know what I can or can't take for a cough and a sore throat? I already have at least one panic per day (due to m/c last year) so don't want to ruin everything by sucking on a Strepsil!!! I'm 16+2 xxx

Try dissolving a tablespoon of honey in a mug of hot water and adding a few good slugs of lemon juice. Honey is no good for babes under a year as far as I know, but perfectly OK when pregnant. I lived on this drink when suffering a horrid bug at around 12 weeks and it's so soothing. Otherwise I used menthol extra strong mints, they kept me lubricated! :p

  • Hi there just adding myself to the EDD list. I only came on as I found the link whilst looking for babywearer.com and being a bit of a MSE addict can't resist joining the club (forgive the pun).

Had our anomaly scan on Tuesday and all is well. After a miscarriage last year we are finally almost in posession of a viable life that will have a chance outside the womb, even if it does decide to come early (no reason to suspect it will but I needed to be past the danger point to really enjoy this pregnancy) that's so far really healthy and developing as expected! It's our first one and I'm 41 next week, so may be our only one - has taken a lot of effort and IVF to get here so things couldn't be better for us - we're actually having a baby!!!!

I have a few gems to share and am looking for a few tips too on being a MSE mum-to-be, and will post shortly.

Does anyone know what I can or can't take for a cough and a sore throat? I already have at least one panic per day (due to m/c last year) so don't want to ruin everything by sucking on a Strepsil!!! I'm 16+2 xxx

My favourite remedy for a sore throat is onion juice. You shop up an onion, place in a bowl, cover in lashings of sugar and wait for the juice to form. Then take a spoon or two when needed. Really coats a sore throat. I had it two weeks ago when I was suffering and missing the usual remedies. The onion has antiseptic properties. Oh and it's delicious if a bit smelly.
For the cough I suppose only inhaling steam or vaporub.
Apart from that definitely lemon honey tea, although the lemon does start getting a bit acidic if you have too much. I had to drink cup-a-soups in the end, as the lemon was too much and water was too drying (?).
    Hope you get better soon!

Hi all and congrats to all the newbies (or newbies to The List!).

Does anyone know what I can or can't take for a cough and a sore throat? I already have at least one panic per day (due to m/c last year) so don't want to ruin everything by sucking on a Strepsil!!! I'm 16+2 xxx
Strepsils should be fine, especially the plain ones (maybe stay away from the super duper most expensive version with weird things added to them!). Or any throat sweets, like Tunes and the like.

It's my turn to forget words today - I can't remember a single brand name :rotfl:

Simple Linctus is supposed to be okay in pregnancy too, but I suspect lemon & honey will work just as well (or Agutka's onion concoction!)

I had my 20-week-scan today. :D Everything's fine, which is such a relief (deep down I was still worried about the slapped cheek syndrome - I'm such a hypochondriac :o)

And we know what it is!!! (I'm so impatient - we found out with the first one as well...) It's a boy! :j :j :j He was long and had long legs apparently (hence the mad kicking for the last few weeks then ).

So happy and relieved... 20 weeks to go! :T
