ok im a bit freaked out and worried - i'm not hugely fat but i am overweight and i have been on a healthy eating plan and have been doing regular exercise for the last 8 weeks - since we decided to get pregnant, i've been losing about a pound a week which i was happy with. im now 6 weeks pregnant and weighed myself this morning and have put on 5lbs IN A WEEK!! i havent eating anything out of the ordinary just the same as all the other weeks, ive done slightly less exercise but i dont know how i could have put on 5lbs. my boobs are feeling huge and have definitely gotten denser if you know what i mean, but i dont believe thats the sole reason. im distressed because i cant be putting on this much weight every week - it cant be good or healthy for me or the baby - especially when im in labour! anyone got any words of advice/wisdom?

The tubi-grip is much more flexible as you move round - and adapts more easily to standing and sitting positions. If you are having trouble getting in and out of cars put a plastic bag on the seat and use it to rotate yourself round - much easier.

Plastic bag also becomes useful when caught out by sudden sneezes ... :o

Stupid question for you all: When do you start to feel the baby? I'll be 19weeks on Monday and not felt a thing. I know I'm (hopefully) working myself up over nothing but is everything still ok in there? Also what effect does high blood pressure have? Midwife told me its high (1st time was 120/70 at 8weeks, then 130/90 at 16weeks and then 138/90 at 18 weeks). IS this something to worry about?

I'm now 22 weeks and first felt movement at 19+4, but I'm sure I must have been feeling it way before then because now I know what I'm feeling the little wriggler never seems to stop! I see myself as lucky because I'm a hefty lump of a lass and so wasn't expecting to feel much 'til I was well towards the end of the second trimester. It just goes to show that everyone's different and I can assure you once it gets going you'll sometimes wish it would just blimmin' chill out ... especially when you're desperate for the loo, and it starts trampolining on your bladder ... :p

As for the blood pressure, my poor GP nearly fell off her chair when she took mine and found it to be 158/109 ... :rotfl: ... but I get serious white coat syndrome which has doctors panicking at my high readings every time, and once in a while they get really excited and strap me into a 24 hour monitor which always reads absolute normal. They're generally more concerned about the diastolic pressure (the second number) in relation to your BP as measured at the booking visit, and mine's definitely been higher than yours on several occasionas and they're OK with that. I'd suggest you talk to your midwife for some reassurance, as it may be simply that your excitement at the check-ups causes your pressure to rise a bit. :)

    Sorry, post-flurry!

I'm really fat and I'd lost a stone and a half (thanks to the I Wanna Lose Weight thread!) before finding out I was pregnant. I regained a few pounds immediately but have discovered that my appetite isn't what it used to be and now at 22 weeks and after some fluctuations I am the same weight as I was at my booking appointment! Baby's growing fine and my waistbands are getting tight so I must actually be losing weight from elsewhere. I too worried that pregnancy would leave me like an elephant but it hasn't worked that way, so try not to worry too much. As long as you eat reasonably healthy foods you'll be OK. I'd imagine the 5lbs you've gained is mainly fluid anyway (and boobs, if you're anything like I was!). :footie: :footie: :rotfl:

Everyone's different and now is not the time to be worrying too much about it. It's likely that it's fluid and things as your body changes and your boobs will definitely weigh more... If you get bad morning sickness you'll lose weight so it may well even itself out in the next few weeks. Try not to obsess with the scales and look at the over all pattern of weight gain over the weeks rather than worrying about individual weeks. Your midwife will assess your weight over the whole term and if you have worries about your weight then mention it at your booking appointment. But please don't worry about it your body is changing a lot at the moment and you'll notice all sorts of things happening.

Claire, everyone's different. I started feeling movement at 16 and a bit weeks and now at 18 weeks feel them regularly - although it's now harder to tell what's baby and what's wind unless I'm lying down :rotfl:

It's more usual to feel movement with a first baby from about 20 weeks but some women don't feel anything until 24 or even 26 weeks. It really varies a lot.

I think one of the reasons I can feel movement is because I've lost weight from the nausea etc (and I was a size 10 already) so there's not much cushioning between me and baby but again it all varies and it may just be that you don't know that what you're feeling is baby...

It is reassuring but it can also be blumming uncomfortable

Wait until you're 30 weeks and you can't get to sleep because the little monkey is doing the can can at 11.45pm, as mine was doing last night - grrr!

Hubby thought it was funny until I cuddled tight in so he was getting kicked as well :rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....
