Congrats benmollymoo, modgit, phatmouse and any others I've forgotten that have had their christmas deliveries! I'm just enjoying having a little squeaker in the house again, even though it doesn't afford me very much in the way of sleep (hence I am living in my dressing gown and slippers this time round). Eldest boy super mega excited about the new baby, and keeps saying how cute he is, while the middle one (2 in Jan) is slightly sceptical and might have a tinge of jealousy about him.

I have two books which I have found v. useful. Which one your wife would like will depend on what kind of person she is.

The Miriam Stoppard on - Conception, Pregnancy & Birth (I think - it's pink and hardback) - has been great. It gives you month by month updates on what's going on with baby, plus lots of useful sections on thinking about feeding, the birth, what could go wrong, how to adjust to being parents, plus a couple of good sections for dads-to-be too. I have dipped in and out of this one constantly and it's been great having a monthly update of what junior is doing, how big she is and what she weighs. I'd recommend this as a great all-rounder.

I have also read 'What to expect when you're expecting' which is a weighty tome and goes into massive amounts of detail about all sorts of things. You have to want to read a lot and to go into that level of detail to really get the benefit, but I've enjoyed it because it tackles the pregnancy month-by-month with similar info to the one above, but also then uses a series of questions which you may be worried about and gives answers to them. This could be anything from funny pains (which you get a lot of and aren't sure where they're coming from or whether to worry) to your sex life, to testing.

As for what to get her for Xmas, she's got a long way to go yet, so perhaps something about being pregnant and something which has nothing to do with it. I didn't want to feel like I stopped being me and became just a mum-to-be as soon as I was pregnant.

I'd recommend some luxurious cream or oil which you can apply to her belly to help fight the dreaded stretchmarks. I used Clarins Huile De Tonic (about £30 but worth it!) from about 10 weeks and haven't a single one - so far. But there are plenty of other, cheaper ones out there. Palmers Cocoa Butter is also meant to be ace and I'm currently using their oil as my Clarins ran out last week.

Perhaps a facial or massage - while she can still lie on her stomach - would be something nice. I also appreciated a nice set of PJs as I've spent a lot of time in them, but pregnancy ones would swamp her at the mo'!

Diamonds are always nice!! :T A small pair of earrings would be a fab gift, or some other form of jewellery picked by you which is her style will always go down well. Steer clear of earrings if you aren't sure as you can't return them.

Can't think of anything else at the mo', but hope that's given you some ideas!

Wife is pregnant - planned (as its about time now after all the fun we have had travelling etc).

Its been a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

Following the first positive test (home kit) at four weeks the result was positive.

Then came two days of bleeding. So another test showed positive.

Went to doc's to be told to go straight to hospital. An overnight stay resulted in test (positive) HCG level of 9,600 which they said was really high and a scan the following morning. With this they say its multiple.

Scan showed two sacs. One with the signs of a fetus - but no life. They thought the other sac may be a blood clot.

Now a week later. (6 weeks)

Three sacs showing. 15mm sac with nothing in it yet!, 12mm sac with fetal pole and heart beat, and a 2mm sac which they feel may come to nothing.

Its now a waiting game to find out whether there is going to be one, two or three.

We want to get excited but it still way too soon. Tuesday's scan is week 7.

The hospital is great - but they are not giving anything away other than saying there is one viable pregnancy.

The thought of one baby is great, two sounds like hard work, but three (lest's not go there).

I find it amazing to think there could be up to three babies when we've not had IVF, which I believe helps.

We've done lots of reading, but it clearly shows that we have to let nature take its course, only after 13 weeks can we be a bit more optimitisic - so it sort of ruins christmas with the worry.

Welcome StratApproach - sorry to hear you aren't having the best start to your wife's pregnancy, will keep everything crossed it all works out for you.

Twirlypen - you need to put your date in the right place so that you move up in order, otherwise you'll never reach the top!

Am now 5th (possibly 4th as Aimo due on 6 Dec) from the top and getting a bit freaked! Still at home and now desperate for baby sooner rather than later.

Tried curry, gin and sex and seeing my reflexologist this week. Spending pretty much all day on my exercise ball. Any more suggestions of things that have worked - please?!!
