Whenever I cook gammon in my slow cooker, I just pour in boiling water to cover and then cook on Low overnight.

I'd put liquid to about 1 inch up the meat and put it on low. The good thing about the slow cooker is that because the lid is on, less steam escapes and it doesn't 'boil dry'. It will be fine on low.

It may be an old wives' tale, but my Mum taught me to boil gammon with a potato in the water - throw the potato away after as it draws the salt apparently!
  • i got a couple of these, cooked one at the weekend using 'boil-in-coke' approach then finished it off in the over with a honey and scrumpy glaze. was excellent plus the scrumpy gave it a real kick!

Went in today to buy some supplies looked to see if these had gone back up to £7 - not quite they are a fiver now so although not as good a bargain, surely still good value considering how much we all liked them and how far the meals spread - will add to the list of foods to buy every now and then.
