Does anyone know if you can cut the joint into steaks.
Really fancy one grilled with a fried egg and pineapple.

    Thanks

Been to Bath half marathon today, so put mine in the sc this morning, forgot to buy coke so put it in on its own. Then realised I could have used apple juice but just eaten it now with mashed potato and cabbage and it was delicious.

I dont worry about it falling appart I just shred it into chunks and we eat it like that. Have plenty for tomorrow to have with bubble and squeak and a fried egg.

I don't think so as I think they are made up of compressed peices of ham, hence the plastic sleeve holding it all together.
  • Wow, that was yummy!

I've just roasted the unsmoked joint, wrapped in foil, in about an inch of apple juice and water, with a few bayleaves and peppercorns. About 20 mins before the end of cooking I brushed the top with a mixture of honey, soy sauce, orange marmalade and a big pinch of 5 spice, then back into a hot oven with the foil removed.

We've just has it with cheesy leeks, mash carrots and gravy. Full, but happy and loads left for tomorrow! Wish I'd bought a few more now!

I got 2 this afternoon and did one coated in honey and mustard. Did 3 for tonights tea as a roast dinner and have plenty left for sandwiches for a couple of days. Left to cool before slicing and only got a bit of crumbling but that will just go into the sandwiches. Thanks OP.

I'm just back from Tesco Rutherglen and had a wee bit of luck! They were reducing these joints to £1.50!! I manged to nab 3 and have stuck them in the freezer. I doubt there are any left now, but they had a fair few, maybe about 25-30 and people were snapping them up!
    Does the offer end tomorrow?

Hi all, having only used my slow cooker supervised IE whilst I was having a day at home, I'm considerring doing the Gammon in applejuice meal.
having to admit to being a little neurotic about leaving food cooking, appliances plugged in whilst I'm at work for 5 hours, but love the thought of coming home to an all but cooked meal, what I want is to ask advice on a good amount of fluid so that it wont burn and after noticing that some sit meat on top of onions if this would be advisable too, I have just ordered a gammon joint from Mr T and really want to try it, also any specific applejuice, still fizzy IE appletise, just plain old apple juice??

Mine was lovely. I only slow cooked it in a little water, then I let it rest for about 20 mins, then carved it with an electric knife. It didn't fall to bits, and was melt in the mouth.. lovely!

I was going to cut a slice off one of the joints today for my ever so fussy FIL. If he hadn't decided he'd rather have bacon I'd have probably sliced it with the sleeve still on and cooked it like that. The sleeve can handle being boiled, so I don't really see why grilling/frying the gammon with the sleeve still attached would be any different. When I used to eat black pudding I used to cook it with the casing on and remove it after. Maybe try cutting a thin steak off it and see what happens when you cook it?
