Thanks Maz,
I totally agree with those comments!
Also, have noted your signature mentions a "Truecall" machine - may investigate this. I am currenly subscribed to BT's Choose to Refuse, which costs about £3 per month. Problem is, it will only let me bar a total of 10 numbers and I am already up to 8!
I think someone else has mentioned Truecall. Is it difficult to set up?
hiya ann
not at all difficult, i paid around just under 100.00 if i recall but my line is blocking all unknown numbers to me and numbers i also wish to block (the line their end appears as if its dialing and calling but we dont hear it)), i do have a second line that i answer which is my internet line and which my friends and family always call me on only, but the original telephone line excists and ive set up that i dont answer it unless ive given anyone a code number, but for you thats how you could set up and enter the numbers you wish to receive to have calls from and then zap list contains any telephone number you wish not to have ring out to you, there are many ways to set it up ive just chosen easy for me and our family circumstances
the helpline was very helpful and it really has saved our sanity this past year, well worth the 100.00 or so spent on it
but of course shout out if you have any questions or worries
keep positive

Truecall device, stops all the unneccesary phone calls - my sanity has been restored and the peace in the house is truely priceless!:rotfl:0 -
Hello everyone,
Have done a quiz and an exciting activity. At last.
Why can't we go back to the days of dictation? What was wrong with a bit of dictation? Remember rote learning our timestables? I can still remember them, and my Latin too, it worked. At the grand age of 39 i might be losing my marbles but i still remember my amo, amas and amat. Why do i have to stress myself doing fancy, dancy stuff????
Time for a cup of tea!!!!!

Glad to hear that you are more cheerful, SW.
Love the idea of the sheriff's hat.
And thanks for the phone information, Maz. £100 sounds quite a lot to me at the moment - but the calls are still getting through as they keep using other numbers. I am ignoring them at the moment but if they start getting me down I may well investigate one of those machines.
And then ask on here for help in getting it set up!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -

The cheapest and most sensible option is to change your number, start from scratch and only give it to people who you want to have it.....
I advise everyone the same, whilst truecall is ok, it is not foolproof and only registers stored numbers, so if say for example you have something like 17 lenders, it'd be fruitless to you..
It works for Maz; in fact I even moaned at her when I noticed she'd paid for it, but I am not really into these gadgets as they are only as good as the user and/or time invested. You could find yourself changing numbers willy-nilly whenever a debt gets sold on etc.... thus a whole new landline stops everything, dead - there and then with instant results.2010 - year of the troll

Thanks NID,
You are so right - as always!
And you did advise that at the outset - but I was a bit stubborn at toughing it out!
Will contact BT about changing my number ..."What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -
Oh dear i didnt realise the horrible calls were still getting through. They will stop soon because Ann has written that they can only contact her by letter. How long should it take for them to listen to your instructions?
I hope you have been sitting in the garden reading and doing happy things far away from the phone so they dont frighten you. They have taken too much from you already.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
New phone number. The NID has solved the problem. Good.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220

Hi SW,
Am ignoring the calls - not answering the phone!
Not sure whether I can send the letters as I haven't actually spoken to anyone?
Not really letting them bother me, though. It was just when I saw the details of the machine on Maz's post I was quite interested.
But I suspect it would take a lot of setting up and I would probably not do it properly, anyway!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -
I find technical things really hard too. You can use a scanner so you are ahead of me!!!
can you get a new phone no? that will be really helpful, make sure it is ex directory and then only nice friends will be able to contact you again and you will feel much better.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Yes, I am sure it will be easy to change - am going to contact BT about it.
Then I will need to let all my friends and family know.
Might be a problem for people who haven't contacted me recently, though ..."What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0
