    I'll second that, Jinny.

SW you deserve a medal for this!

And thanks everyone for giving the much-needed support. Let's hope she gains courage from it.

Gosh, it has put all that banter from yesterday truly into perspective!

I've also posted on JCs thread.

I think it'll help her knowing that she has the support of other people though, ultimately, she's the only one who can make the final decision of what to do.

Agree Pixie i know from my lovely friend years ago who went through this she thought if only she could be a better /wife/mother/person this would not happen to her. Her "wonderful" mil told her to put up with it for the families sake!!! she got out and as far as she knows she would still get a hiding even though it was years ago. Nobody deserves to be used as a punchbag. There are increasing cases of men experiencing domestic violence as well. Our best wishes to this lady may her self esteem soar to help her out of this situation.

Girlies, life is precious we have to help each other. That is what this thread is all about. You have no idea how much you have all helped me.

I started crying when i saw JC's earlier post. I was so scared knowing you are there with her and offering advice makes me confident it will have a much better ending. As you are all so wise.

I love you all to bits. Girlies when we have a reunion we are gonna paint the town red!!!! and pinch everyone's flowers just like Jinny's marvellous poem.

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
and satin sandals and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
    And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickles for a week.
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
