Hi This is my first ever post so I apologise for any errors, I would qualify for the £100,000 Debt Club (Self inflicted) and have been struggling to come up with a resolution to my problems for over eight years. What I have learned in battling with my creditors is that they will ultimatley accept a % of the sum owed if a lump sum can be found so if you can raise £50,000 you may be able to wipe out all oy your partners debts. I hope this helps.

Hi and welcome to our club. Thank you for posting here and sorry to hear about your situation. Ones we sold the house we will have the money, but it seems unrealistic that they will except our offer as mentioned earlie in this "club", being as we will have the money (sale of house).
Where are you now, with your creditors? Still batteling?

    He people,
hope everyone is doing fine. I am not too happy, did not have a glass of wine for a few days now, trying to cut back on expenses and proove myself I am not an alchoholic yet.:D so a bit moody. My hubby told his mum that our house is going on the market soon, she told him to pay her a visit and that she wants to have a chat with him. I doubt she has £100K worth of "chat" (I gather poor lady wants to help out). To be honest I'd rather start from scratch without any financial help from relatives. We all know where that "help" can lead in some cases. I do not fancy my in laws telling me how to live my life, which is what would have happened.
So here is my update. Just one more thing, hubby doesn't want to get estate agents to value the house, keeps saying not just yet. So that is my next battle, to get him to just do it. You just watch me do that, because I will.:D

  • Thanks for the kind greeting.....yes still battling with £90,000 of personal debts and £55,000 in Mortgages. Can I ask have you advised yor creditors of your property value. I have been able to obstruct any types of questions around this in the early stages by explaining that because the property is in joint names my partner has forbiden me to discuss or disclose our property value. Not sure if this is valid but it has worked quite well :) I am not sure how many options you have looked at with regard to how to best resolve this but sometimes just selling the property and paying up in full may not be the best option. If you consider that in particular with large Credit Card debts that have been built up over a period of years the bulk of the amount owed is interest and lump sum offers can be very appealing if you can hold out for 12 to 18 months making minimum payments. Normally around this stage they will look to find a resolution with yourself or sell the debt on at a drastically reduced amount. Sorry if I am rambling on a bit its late.....

No, our creditors did not have any contact from us regarding difficulties to pay. I am just trying to read up what I can on the net and people here have kindly advised me on few things, so just taking each day as it comes, but have not made any steps as yet. We can carry on with minimum payments probably for a while. You are right over the last few years we have not spend at all on cards it is interest only that has built up. I do not really know what we are going to do at the end.... So did you actually manage to get any of your debt written off? If yes, has it affected your credit score badly?

    Hi guys,

just a little note really, hubby is very much down, told me off for pushing him, think I may have got a bit overentusiastic!:o

I was just talking to sales guys at work today (for those who may not know I work for a local estate agent) and just by describing them our house, they say that the house is more likely to be in the region of £325K, rather then what I thought £250K. Obviously I am not getting too excited, because, what they say and what the real sale price we would get might differ by a faire bit! Would have been great though if we could get that sort of money.

Received a new credit card this morning, that I've applied for ages ago, hubby says, lets transfer some debt onto it, but thanks to someones good advice I am not going to, because as someone wisely said earlier this might just delay him doing something about this situation.

    Hi there,
just wondering if anyone sold a house themselves before, as advised in Money wise magazine? Our sales guys at work been telling me, that I'd be a fool to sell it through internet site. Obviously I realise that they will be trying to get a business from me and keep telling me horror stories of how it all went wrong for some who tried.
