I used to work for the CAB,
before the ark but then and probably now a wife ( must be legally married) could register an interest in the property that was the "marital home". This was to prevent the roof being sold over her head due to husband's debts. It would equally apply to a husband where the wife owned the property.
Thank you, that gives us some hope. Anything we can save, if it is legaly called his or mine doesn't really matter as long as we can save as much as possible.

    Hi there,

my hubby called the CCCS and asked if he could make an appointment and they said it would be next to impossible. Boo-hoo.
What do I do next? Does anyone know good financial adviser and what am I looking to pay?
    Thank you

They said, they do not have offices near us and where they do have offices is hours traveling away.

But as far as I'm aware, they do all the appointments over the phone, you do not have to go to an office, that is why people outside Leeds can use the service.

Silly me. I got impression that I could make an appointment and someone would look into our papers with us and advise us what to do. Think we might need to find an Insolvency practicioner and see what can be done?

Why can't you do it all over the phone and you and hubby go through papers. It's just making a list.

    Debtor.
    Amount.
    APR%.
    Monthly amount.

File it all and enter data into spreadsheet if you can.

Also, I have read most of the thread, but sorry if I missed it, you have enough equity in your home to pay back all the debt and then some, why can't you do this? All this could be over in 3 months.

Very good point. If it was up to me only, that would be exactly what I would do, but being as the house and the debt is my husband's I can only be by his side and help him with whatever I can. Also, I must admit there is a typical materialistic worm inside myself and hubby to try and save what we can and therefore trying to find out all of ways of dealing with this and choose the one that will save us the most of his money. We are now going to sit down and enter all of his details onto a spreadsheet and find out the exact figuers. I came home very much feeling down today and told him, that I needed to know to the penny what we owe. Going to do it now. Will post the amount later on, for those who interested.

Despite feeling down today, you seem to be a lot more focussed, assertive and determined that you were a few days ago. Would you say that was a fair assessment?
