I think you are missing the fact that they are paying £6.99 a month to get the library included... So the programs they watch don't cost anything on top of the £6.99 a month.

yes but you still have to pay 6.99 a month even if you dont watch anything in the library therfore your paying for freeview

Not strictly true. The 6.99 a month or whatever it is is for the TV subscription service, which is completely optional. You can also get Vision without a subscription to any package, whereby you only pay for any show you want to watch. So the advantage here would be that you get Freeview but the OPTION to watch the on-demand library, whereby you would pay per view. With Freeview you do not get this option, only what freeview channels are included on your box/tv

To add, I have had the service for just under a year now, and on the whole have been quite happy with it. Like someone has already said, you need BT Broadband to access the box. There is a huge library of on demand content to suit all tastes, and the V-Box lets you pause, rewind and record live TV (the freeview channels), plus there are Scart, HDMI and Ethernet sockets so it’s a useful thing to have. I have subscribed to the Bronze TV pack since getting the service (Sports & Music) which I too got on an introductory offer, but has since shot up to 14.99 a month. Still not bad considering how much you can watch on it, but don't for one minute think Vision is a new rival to Sky or Virgin for non-freeview channels. The selling point is the on-demand content, which is allegedly far superior to both Sky and Virgin. Until recently the only problems I have encountered are the remote (only half of the buttons work) and the EPG, which often comes up with an error resulting in the box needing to be re-booted. However, moving home with the service has been an absolute nightmare, and trying to talk to some of the customer service advisors at BT is like banging your head against a brick wall. Instead of transferring my Vision service, they somehow managed to delete my account, meaning I now have a Vision box but everything is now PPV. No-one at BT is even the least bit helpful, and constant promises to get it sorted have been to no avail. I am now considering leaving BT as I have had trouble with my broadband too, and they have been no help despite hours and hours of explaining the same situation to different people.
If you are content with freeview, and would like the option of watching different shows on a box then it's a good service to sign up to, but don't expect any problems with the box/service to be promptly fixed by BT as their customer service is pretty useless, and I think you will find this opinion is shared by a lot of people

I could get a full SKY+HD subscription for £50-60 and watch only BBC1 therefore paying much more for Freeview.

    What's your point?

BT Vision - if you like to rewatch old TV programmes and not bothered about the latest Lost or 24 then BT Vision is great.

If you want to watch Live football or the latest TV series' then it's not for you.

BT Vision currently have 8 series of Red Dwarf on the On Demand section. Both Series of I'm Alan Partridge and some excellent films like Scarface.

    Perfect for me.

You could look at the BT Vision website maybe?
    or here:
    http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/btvisionchannels.html
But it's just the Freeview channels.
It's only the on-demand content that is any different.

Ahhh didn't know it was just freeview channels. The BT advisor I spoke to today was trying to tell me there was lots but when I asked if there was somewhere I could find the channel listings she just paused.

So is bt vision basically freeview yet you pay for repeats? Sorry I've been with sky for 15 years so not used to other digital providers.

No it is not repeats, it is on demand content, but you pay a sub anyway. Why don't you just look at their website where it is all explained in detail?

  • Vision website is here. You do need to be with BT Total Broadband as well though.

I currently have a top-up tv box, without taknig top-up tv, so I can record, rewind etc. I have a b listed house which means sky, whilst not out of the question is a lot more hassle.

With the Baseball season about to start I am considering BT vision as I can't get ESPN America through freeview, only ESPN.

I haven't been able to glean much info about the availablity of HD through BT vision, do they have the standard HD channels or is all HD content ppv?
