No buying toiletries in March challenge!

nothing to report here, other than about £21 made from selling toiletries.
What I want to ask, is about waxing. I've just been reading another thread about it, and it made me think... I've never tried waxing in my life! Can anyone who uses an epilator tell me which hurts most - waxing or epilating?
I was thinking about buying some wax strips from Boots with my vouchers, as I'm sick of shaving... any recommendations are welcome.
I've been waxing for years, both on my own and sometimes at the local college, and I can honestly say I'd choose waxing over epilating any day. The pain is more sudden, but a larger area is taken care of quickly, as with an epilator it just drags on and on and on.......
But like I said, this is from my experience back in the old days. The machines might have improved, but I honestly can't see how they can mask the sensation of continuous hair pulling
Congrats on your profit by the way :T0 -
Good morning everyone.
I have a question. In rummaging around for conditioners/treatments I found a John Frieda treatment for highlighted hair that I've bought at sometime because its reduced. It says its for ''honey and caramel'' highlights, and to use the correct treatment for your highlight colour. My highlights are....plentiful, and none of them hony/caramel...althoug some of my own hair is...in fact my highlights ATM are copper, strawberry and very, very light blonde, and I have chocolate colours through....so...um...lots of colours...does this mean I shouldn't use anything for a paticular colour of hair? if I treid this is my hair likely to go darker? or the other colours fade?
Should this go in my ''get rid box''?0 -
Oh, now you've done it. Maybe I could justify buying the gentle day cream if I was getting a facial and some little extras as well. I do need a more intensive moisturiser than the one I'm using, so it would be a need not a want.
I think I'll buy a She on the way home...
the girl also gave me advice about skin care (said I was using the exfoliator too much,as my skin is so dry that made sense!)not sure i would buy the make up as very expensive.I asked when the next bonus time was (Boots) and she said may so will buy things then to get goody bag(and add to stash:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)
went to see 3D Alice last night,1st 3D ever! A bit odd,OH liked the film and it was ok but not one I would watch again....much prefer JD in Pirates:):):)0 -

Good morning girlies :hello:
It's a beautiful day and I'm stuck indoors waiting for a phonecallKnowing my luck, it'll come when I have to pick DD up from nursery!
I've just painted my nails with french white tips, finally got the base coat open! I had to use one of those rubber 'helping hand' things. That is after trying pliers, and shutting it in doors, everything else I could think of, it just wouldn't budge. It's called 'toughen up' - can anyone else see the irony!? :rotfl: Just gonna put the topcoat on now.
Haven't used anything else up, steadily working my way through various creams and bodybutters and everything else. My feet are amazingly soft - I've been slathering the nivea cream on every night/day when wearing cozy boots :T
Oh! Freya's (:A) bodyshop order arrived yesterday, gave it straight to a very jealous mum to help her wrap it. My aunt was there too and couldn't believe it, and my mum's friend - I think I've just gotten myself the job of telling everyone about the glitches and putting it through for them! :rotfl:0 -
I had a bad reaction last night to a Sanctuary spa body lotion. As soon as i'd finished putting it on my skin felt like it was on fire and i went bright red like i'd been sunburnt. Two showers and an antihistamine later it was still burning and i started to panic, luckily it eventually eased but i was worried for a while. It was my fault though not the product because i realised after it's probably about 10 years old.:o That has now been binned and i won't be buying it again even though it was my fault. So be careful about really old stuff.
I also finished a True spirit body wash that was a present a few years back and i wouldn't buy that either the smell was horrible and it didn't lather very well.0 -

That sounds scary, poor you
I've finished a Ruby & Millie i-writer today, I would buy it again. I've never actually finished an eyeliner before :rotfl: I have loads of pencils, so I'll see how it goes, but I may find myself having to buy another R&M liquid liner quite soon, since they give such a different effect.0 -
I'm not 100% sure - I'd probably just use it, tbh, but then I'm like that with everything

OMG fallen off the wagon bigtime and it's all Freyasmums fault:rotfl::rotfl:read her comments about BS order and looked back through links for info, ended up joining quidco(but think I *ocked up as put order through without verifying i had joined:() never mind have now bought the BS goodies and saved lots of money, also bought a £5 card to save on future orders. The link said the code ends on the 8th but it still worked for me:)
now got lots more to add to stash when it comes :embarasse:embarasse:embarasse
SHEA_MUM is the code but please dont ask how i found it ,just looked back at Freyasmums posts and got it from quidco somewhere along the line!

morning all
poor you Holly hope you are alright now. One of the sanctruasy body lotions makes me warm and tingly - not to the extent you are describing. I thought i was alergic to that till someone mentioned that one of them warms on your skin and gives a warm sensation.
It was shortly after using it that i got a rash all over my torso and ended up down the Drs getting hydrocortisine cream.
only a toothpaste and a couple of sachets to report using up today.
started using a 'bath and body works' rosemary peppermint moisturising foot cream today it feels lovely and you only need a tiny bit. Dont know where i got it (possibly a carboot sale) as its got a pricetag on for $15.00. Its in a silver plastic tube that looks metal.
I never used to bother with toner but i found a bottle of sanctuary toner in my stash so started using it, it has made a world of difference to how my skin feels so ill be continuing toningSPC~12 ot 124

Thanks for this rosemary54, it's useful for me to know that Boots will be doing a goody bag in May. For the last couple of weeks I have considered to buy clarins new moisturising facial mask and a mascara in order to get 3 free gifts from their website, the prices are cheaper than in Boots and Debenhams. My facial mask is nearly finished now but after having gone through my stash I realise that I had 3 sample pots of various masks so I suddenly realised than I have facial masks to last me at least 3 months so I have persuaded myself not to buying anything this time.
Thanks for everyone's posts on this thread. This thread has made me really think before I buy any new cosmetics. I think I fear the feeling of suddenly running out of a product which of course I never do, at the latest I will buy a new product when I cut open the tub etc.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j0 -

I used to have my legs waxed every so often in a salon, and now epilate at home and I think the pain is pretty much the same. I prefer the epilator, for a number of reasons:
1. Once you've bought it, it's free.
2. You can do it at home at your convenience.
3. I think you stay hairless for longer with epilation.
4. When I had them waxed I'd find the odd stray one which if you find after epilating, you can go over it again.
I do think that epilating is pretty painless once you've done it a few times though (you just get used to the feeling), and I find that the hair becomes more and more sparse over time too.:)
Oh and by the way, the wax strips you use at home are nowhere near as effective at removing hair (IMO) as salon waxing, they've always missed loads when I've tried them, I don't think they're waxy/sticky enough.Mortgage to clear asap! - [STRIKE]£148,874.38 [/STRIKE]as at 1 May 2013£79,176.55 May 2018£59,516.06 July 2019November 2020 £35,914.620
