    Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
    Evenin' all
Very late and lazy post from me today, been really busy all weekend really
Yesterday went to Southampton with friend who was determined to spend a load of money, I withdrew £20 and refused to spend more. I did buy some eyelashes on my debit card but only because I wanted to save my change for parking - and my friend paid for that anyway! So still kept within budget. Went to buy a necklace (£9) and earings (£3.50) in Claire's for last night buy they scanned through for £4.50, who was I to argue?? So had a good LSD yesterday. Last night went out for friend's birthday, I got tired and shared taxi home with friend (paid for with a random £10 my little brother gave me). OH was going to get a taxi later......he ended up falling asleep on the sofa of the venue (posh hotel) and woke up at 7am this morning, called me to come pick him up!!!! Very MSE!!!!!!

    Anyways -
    - today I prepped and froze carrots and onions for use during the week to save time.
    - did my meal plan for next 2 weeks
    - got bank accounts etc up together
    - had an afternoon nap
    - cooked roast for 7 people
    and I will
    - list some ebay items
    - ironing/hokey cokey
    - WILL get OH to wash up lunch stuff

Rachel, I hope you feel very noble at the moment, you should do cos not many people would do that, I will buy a big issue but not if the seller is smoking, because I don't feel if someone needed money desperately that they shouls smoke (I can say that as someone who gave up immediately at her LBM)
Nothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!

Just did a huge post and it disappeared so I'll summarise it and try again...

Last night I had a massive eye opener when picking OH up from the pub. We popped into the shop for a few bits on the way home and outside there was a young man effectively begging. He looked awful - filthy dirty, painfully thin and in tears. I didin't have any change so went in the shop to get some.

When I came out instead of just giving him the money for some reason I felt compelled to talk to him - his story was heartbreaking. He wasn't drunk, on drugs or anything like that, just utterly lost. He'd been living on the street for 6 months with the odd day in a hostel - his girlfriend had left him with lots of debt, unpaid rent, bills etc and effectively he lost his flat. He had literally nothing just the clothes he was sat in. He was just devastated, defeated and didn't know what to do.

A few others and myself clubbed together and got enough to pay for a few nights in a hostel for him and OH and I drove him there, checked him in and made sure he had enough for a warm meal. He almost wouldn't get in the car as he was so embarrassed about being smelly and dirty, bless him. His story was heartbreaking and made me think there for the grace of god .....

I'm probably like a lot of people and thought that people like him were somehow at fault and could help themselves but he clearly couldn't.

Just made me really think about what I do have rather than what I don't and to be grateful for small things.

I don't mean to preach at all - it just totally rocked me and thought someone may be interested.

What a truly lovely thing for you all to do. I reckon that would mean so much more to him than just giving him a handout. Yes we all judge too easily and I always think that could so easily happen to anybody. I once heard of somebody who took a young girl (homeless) for a coffee, started meeting her every weekend and then she ended up with the waiter in the coffee shop, got herself a job and some lodgings. A bit of thought goes a long way. Well done to you

Thanks for your post Rachel, I know you weren't looking for credit for what you all did but you deserve it. I hope your actions will give that young man a bit of breathing space to help him back onto his feet.
    Today I:
    1) Took T to a playcentre for a Netmums meetup. Free entry for Netmums so that was a saving of £8!
    2) Did a minishop in Tescos for essentials, in the hope of avaoiding a big shop for another week. Used points coupons.
    3) Lots of hokey cokey drying indoors.
    4) All meals from stores including Approved Food puddings.
    5) Watched a couple more episodes of The Office on free website.
    6) B has borrowed a wii game for cheap entertainment.
    7) Did SC, checked banking etc
    8) Checked on my ebay item.
    9) Started to make a Mother's Day card using paper scraps.

Oh well, another weekend over. See you tomorrow, L x

  • Good evening everyone,

I am new to this, been a watcher for a while but thought it is the right time to join and get myself together as I have been bad! With £4000 on the credit card, £260 odd debt on the gas and my love of the cafe and coffee shop and magazines I think its time to behave myself and get obsessed! Oh and I am pregnant so really need to think about my spending habits on non essential items!!!

You all do some brilliant things which are small but make such a difference so thank you for the tips ive already seen, to help me move forward.

As it is late i think i will start tomorrow, with little small steps as i have been extremely lazy since falling!!
