Sorry just don't know what to say - here's me currently with two homes for a bit and groaning about how to juggle both of them. Puts life into perspective a bit.

    I know - its mad isn't it?
I'm all worried about whether we can go on holiday this year and there's others with nothing at all.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not a do-gooder and am certainly a bit self obsessed and only donate to animal charities! It was the first time I've ever been in that situation and perhaps not the last but I just couldn't walk away. Even OH who is a hard nosed kind of bloke (and had had 6 pints by then!) was sympathetic and did his bit.

Anyway, must get on with school work and a bit of general faffing!
  • Hi just been lurking but wanted to say to rachelmk - that totally opened my eyes and made me so ashamed at how much I have wasted on carp, some people are sitting there with the clothes on their back, and here's me p'd off cos I can't afford to spend money on even more stuff at a craft show.............The world needs more people like you who care xxxxxxxxxx

PS i wanted to sya it's good you talked to him, I have to say I read a piece in a mag about people who caught up with their debts by going out begging on a friday n daturday night dressed as if they were homeless, getting loads of money from generous drunk people then taking it home to their cosy warm house and using it to pay not only for their debts but for luxuries that they don't really need, like clothes, meals out n takeaways. There's also a beggar who's in our town and there's a rumour going about that either a) he's a junkie and spends all his money on drugs or b) he has a fancy car waiting to collect him after the day's over. Have to say that I woud rather do summat like rachelmk has, ie physically buy the stuff myself. I think sometimes I shoudl give people rolls n juice, that way you know it's being used to keep them going
    Sorry if that's offended anybody
    NSD November 1/20 :money:
Crap 1, Simple Be, Next, VANQUIS, TESCO, VERY, EMPIRE, ADDITIONS, HALIFAX C/C, HALIFAX LOAN, STUDENT LOAN
Make £10 a day in November £34.57/£450
  • Hi everyone

Thanks for starting the thread Fay. Good luck with all the house stuff. So exciting!

MillyS - where are these posh smilies you speak of???

I've got a bit of a busy weekend going on here. Need to:
    - batch cook another 6 portioner so I can relax mid-week evenings mmm, looks tasty in the fridge.
    - have a mini-pamper sesh instead of going to a beautician - no eyebrow threading, manicures or pedicures for me! Wow, just spent about half an hour on youtube watching manicure/pedicure tutorials! Nails are actually looking quite good now.
    - decide whether to keep trying to sell my other old phone on amazon or whether to swap for piggy points/Amazon vouchers for bday pressies ?!?
    - MiL2B is going to buy my old laptop!:T (I'm sharing one with OH for now) Woo, £50 for my weekend away next week.
    - heating off all day Down lower than usual today
    - store cupboard breakfast and lunch. Having tea at OH's parents. Mmm, so nice! Also came home with a shopping bag full of frozen fish that they didn't want. Result.
    - washing sheets & towels at OH's parents and hopefully hanging them outside to dry check
    - looking for supplies for wedding invites now we've finally decided what to do ebay is too addictive, but I've carefully thought out my use of ribbons/decorations so keeping the cost down.
    - started a spending diary (thanks for the link Fay!) but then realised I hadn't spent for a while so couldn't update it:A Will have a play around later.
    - put some coins in the jar from OH's pockets :p
    - will do the washing up pronto - think the water will still be hot from last night so won't need to put immersion tank back on Looks like I've got another 2 loads to be getting on with. Where do they all come from?!!
    - some calls using free mins Called the bank to find out where my new debit card is (expires today!) and they said they'd never had any proof of address so they wouldn't send me any post. Very MSE now I won't be able to cash out for the next week! :)
    - take out the rubbish/recycling rubbish done...
    - feed the fish all done
    - catch up with a series I'm watching online task for later today - keeps me out of spending-online trouble!

    Phew! Best get started!

    Hi everyone,

    Happy Sunday!

Rachel, that story brought a little tear to my eye too. Has definitely put things into perspective for me today. xx

    Welcome - gettingthereslowly.

Rachel - you are such a star, so many people don't give to people on the streets because they think it will be used for drugs or alcohol, what you did was amazing. Before we were together, my partner was made bancrupt and lost his job. He literally had no where to go and ended up at the YMCA who were totally amazing and gave him a room and food everyday but the registration process takes a few days and he slept in the park while he waited. I was so gutted for him when I found that out. He has family but had no money to get to them and no credit on his phone to ring and ask for help, and didn't want them to know what a mess he was in so slept on the park bench, that was just a few days and it broke my heart so I can't imagine how awful things are for the guy you helped.
Incidently my OH is always much more in perspective than me, i've always had everything i need - and if i haven't had any money and needed / wanted anything i've bought it on my credit card (hence my mess) . When i get upset saying i feel so down because we've got no money blah blah blah he gives me mini bollocking and says this isn't having no money, when you have no carpets no furniture because its been taken away, and no food in the cupboards, thats having no money. I've never experienced that so its good sometimes that he reminds me how lucky we are.

anyway... after that long waffle ( sorry )

    plans for today..
    • sort out house insurence - it needs renewing as from tomorrow - done
    • internet banking - have moved to A and L and not into the swing on loggin onto their site I know all the other logins but not A and L yet!- done
    • post letter to gym
    • visit mum to be told how fat I am ( have decided last night - 2am that i am going to join slimming world on monday. I know that it is an extra cost, but my weight is actually becoming really detrimental to my helath, it has spiraled out of control with my debt and in 5 years i have gone from being just under 10 stone to just under 15 stone - I know there is someone else who posts on here does SW and kept thinking I could do that too - I checked out WW and SW but needed a meeting on Mondays as I work til late on tue wed and thurs ( 2nd job) SW have a meeting down the road from me on a Monday anyway going on monday will be my first step to trying to get my weight in control as well as my debt. If I get OH to drop me there from work I could even walk back and get some excersize in .)
    • make sure i have all butty stuff planned for the week and bread defrosted for sandwiches tomorro
    • take doglets out for a walk
    • tidy up a bit
    • watch a bit of the football with OH
    • Iron clothes for the week for work
Think thats it for today .. sorry for the long walffle in this post!
have a lovely day everyone x

I know what you mean but nobody could make themselves as dirty and smelly as he was! I too wouldn't just give money - I'd rather give something else. Funny thing that he did say though - he really appreciated sandwiches etc but dreamt of a hot meal sat at a table and a cup of tea. Makes you think....
