I still have my telly & I love it, but am not ruled by it, so no apologies :D

I rarely watch broadcasts, but love decent films & gaming, so there's no way I'd give it up

re the 'you-have-a-telly-so -you-must-have-a-licence' brigade ... no surprises, the licence is mis-named & they're living in the past

at one time, the only thing you could do with a telly was to watch broadcasts, but technology has moved on & it's high time the title of the licence was changed to reflect modern usage, this would avoid a lot of confusion

but cost the BBC money???

I am seriously thinking of ditching the TV when I move house - I do occasionally watch something on BBC iPlayer but I have said for years that the box in the corner was the most expensive ornament in the house, costing as it does £140+ per year just to gather dust!

Whatever happened to tv detector vans? Are they illegal snooping devices now?
They do not work, and never have worked. They're a scam to scare people into paying.

Well, the time draws nearer. Today the letter states that they are going to visit my road and that they can take my statement under caution!!! they dont have any legal rights as I see it or am I wrong?? By the way, just to reiterate, I do not have a TV

I find the OFF button such a good idea! I can choose what to watch and when and still get out and about into the real world without sitting hypnotised by the moving pictures if I don't want to be

"Under caution" - will there be a police presence?

TVL have no right of access to your property and you do not need to engage in any sort of dialogue with them, should you choose not to do so.

Just to add, just because you don't have a TV doesn't mean you don't need a licence.

Strictly speaking they do - the same rights as your paper boy or the lady collecting for Oxfam.

If they do turn up, you can, of course ask them to leave - as politely, or impolitely as you wish.
If while you are doing this, you also inform them that you are removing their "implied right of access" to your property any further visits from them become unlawful.

Thanks Moorakerz. I knew there was something about access but couldnt remember it

And for the others, well I have no desire to watch moving pictures, nor do I watch any live TV. I can assure you there is no law breaking in this household. And it would certainly be interesting if they request police presence here too!

You could have a lot of fun with them - if you can be bothered.;)
