Don't get me started on X Factor and all that inane pap! I wouldn't mind but I know what is happening and who everyone is just by listening to them all at work!

KD - I listen to Radio 2, Chill FM and Classic although I am going to give Radio 4 a bash. It seems to come highly recommended. My little ipod is also often on the go too, however, sometimes just the sound of silence is equally relaxing after the day from hell. :D

Regarding the TVL bods, I am sure if I were to approach the door with my axe (I have a wood burner so use it for chopping kindling) in my hand they may think twice about wanting to interview the mad crazy woman with no TV! :rotfl:

Try telling my kids that :p

Give it a go. They can go play outside or play together indoors on stuff other than TV. The family communicates more when there is no TV. TV and computer games consoles are just electronic baby sitters really.

I think it is imortant for families to eat breakfast together and eat together in the evening too.

I read also that when a family tries to become telly free the kids often don't mind and it is the adults that can't cope.

You may not need a licence to listen to the radio, but don't you think it is slightly hypocritical to denounce the TV licence fee that funds the BBC, and then to listen to BBC radio stations (which are funded by the TV licence money)?

I'd happilly go telly-free if it weren't for my lodgers. My (now ex) OH has a big widescreen tellybox which is plugged into the DVD player and nothing else - and doesn't miss it a bit.

If BBC 6 Music is shut down as speculated, I will be handing my license back (and saving the Virgin TV costs too).

if i only listened to BBC radio, then i'd still feel entitled to criticize the TV licence fee and i wouldn't pay it.

at the moment, there is no option to buy a BBC radio licence only - that would be fairer.

but, as it stands, you're forced to pay for something you don't use. why should anyone pay for services they don't use?

i agree with you, in principal, that people who are using bbc radio should make a contribution, but they currently don't have that option. it's either all or nothing.

a radio licence would cost a tiny fraction of what the total licence fee is.

Better! More relaxing and less controlled by outside influences.

Dump the Telly £148.00 per year saving
Dump the Mobile Phone £180 per year saving

    Total Saving £328 per year

Life becomes better I promise you! :T:T:D

Completely agree - Life is so much nicer nowadays. As for TVL knocking on the door I wasnt in when they called here and havent seen them since but believe me if they knocked on my door at 10.30 I would be calling the police for harrasment. As for them just wanting to check that I am not lying.... how much are BBC paying these companies to go to so many houses when there might only be a minority that lie. Whatever happened to tv detector vans? Are they illegal snooping devices now?

I dont have a problem with the licence fee and have not denounced it as you say. What I have a problem with is the bully boy tactics employed by a company who I now find out has no legal standing to come knocking on my door and fails to comprehend that not everyone has a TV, even when they have been advised as such. If they fail to keep sufficient records to this effect then I would suggest they get their house in order before wanting to view mine. My life does not revolve around a box which frequently takes centre stage in a living room.
