About 3 years ago, I bought M&S Gold coffee, (the one packaged similarly to Gold Blend). When I took the lid off, the foil seal inside said Asda all over it! The Asda version is in exactly the same shape jar, and costs over £1 less. Needless to say, I never buy M&S anymore.0

At first I was cross to learn of the fact that some of the goods we purchase whether consumerables or white goods are disguised i.e. we have cheap, middle of the road and higher end goods. Probably because I would often buy the higher end. However, it could be a good thing because now we have this thread we can keep abreast of it. and by the cheapest available. MInd you if everyone bought the cheapest possible would the companies not fight back in some way.
Another thing spings to mind we must remember the service industries especially those who have been alleged to have provided a substandard kitchen for example. They often have umbrella companies. It might be worthwhile for someone (not me too busy studying) to look into which company owns who i.e. Masterfoods make Mars Bars and I think Dolmio so that we can be fully aware of who we are purchasing from whatever we buy.
I hope the above makes sense! All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0 -

a couple of years ago i bought a bush tv (reconditioned), having found it unusual to find a 14 inch nicam tv in silver for £90 (then!!!)
opened the box and found inside a GOODMANS instruction manual for a completly different tv. Bush are owned by alba, who make things under millions of different names.

We had a Goodmans widescreen TV go up in flames when it was just 2 years old. I spoke to a local repair man who said he had seen that problem a number of times with that TV, he also told us that it was a TV that was made and sold to different companies who all put their own tags on. So off we went to replace our TV as it was not economically repairable.
Sure enough, we found the exact same TV on sale with a number of names on it - and at different prices too!
I ended up going for a Sanyo and is completely different to it.Nice to save.0 -

These are one of the most sensitising ingredients for people with excema and why anyone would want to put paraffinium liquidim ("Baby Oil"!) on their skin or their babies is beyond me.Try using Hemp oil ,Olive oil,Rosehip Oil ( cold pressed)on your skin you will be suprised.
Same with bar soap used to use imperial leather can't now biggest ingredient in all bar soap sodium tallowate (cow, pig, goat fat you are washing yourself with lard!) a host of preservatives (to stop it going off)and parfum to mask the lovely (sic!) natural smell.
Real soap is made with olive, palm oil or other nut seed oil and has little or no preservatives.
Now I say If I cant eat it I wont use it.
Ecover make fantastic cleaning products which are all vegetable based and super biodegradable,I use their washing up liquid as shower gel with no problems.
I buy real vegetable soap from health food stores.
Skincare from Weleda https://www.weleda.co.uk
Estee Lauder own Mac,Clinique,Origins,Prescriptives,Aveda,Aramis,Bobby Brown
L'Oreal own Lancome ,Helena Rubenstein,Garnier,
Yves saint Laurent own Nina Ricci,Van Cleef&Arpels and guess who owns YSL Skincare and makeup Sanofi one of the biggest oil companies.
Friend used to work for YSL+Clinique 50ml pure perfume Opium cost £120 cost to produce £5
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturiser £15 Water,sesame seed oil,mineral oilcolourants.Cost around 40p.

I'm a newbie, so please excuse if I get this all wrong !
My father-in-law used to work in the local Bowyers factory (now part of the Northern Foods Group I believe) Every year they got a Xmas Hamper with loads of M&S stuff in it, such as ham and egg rolls (made by Bowyers), biscuits, gateaux etc - all from the Northern Food group I was told. Bowyers make stuff for several supermarkets, its just the quality of ingredients used that differentiate them I'm told.
I once came accross an accident involving a Weetabix Lorry - it was full of not only Weetabix branded stuff but also several shops own branded stuff. The driver said weetabix make all the UK supermarket weetabix type cerials.
Finally, I used to work for a builders merchants and sold Neff Kitchen Appliances. Went on a tour of their manufacturing plant in Germany, they were building Neff, Bosch, AEG and Siemens all in the same plant, just different badges and fascias.
Great site and great thread.

Shoka thanks for that feel sick but thanks nonetheless. I an a veggie and I use Imperial Leather. I am shocked. You may think I am naive but I had no idea. It seems whatever soap etc I use I come out in blotches except the bodyshop.
Does anyone else recommend any type of soap which is good for sensitive skin and is not made out of pig etc.
I know where my imperial leather is going . . .All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0
