You'd be surprised how many people think certain products are made by that specific company whereas the work is contracted out to another company who makes it for them and does all the labelling etc. and the original company will market the product as their own.
The company that make it will obviously get their shareCertified Resident Wanty Stalker #001

I suppose the people who get to trial the new Boots products actually live in the same town as the development takes place (Nottingham?). How do Boots actually get to choose who trials their products?
I love trying new stuff out.
A while back I had an email update from a mag regarding a trial on a new skin cream. I replied straight away, thinking that it would be first come first served. If I had not been so rushed to answer and had read the message properly and done some reasearch I would have known the cream was meant for ladies at least 20 years older than me so I should have added a bit to my birthdate!:rotfl:

HAH! That's brilliant! I use TIGI products now and stopped using Toni & Guy!
Or do you mean Toni & Guy stuff sold outside the salon is made by Boots?0 -

TIGI is Tony & Guy's actual product (again whether they make it or not is a different story, most probably they contract it out) so you will see this in their "own" stores.
The stuff in boots is made by boots but Tony & Guy have lent their name to the product, kinda like a partnership, most probably to boost sales.
Hope that has help clarify the confusion.Certified Resident Wanty Stalker #001

marybishop wrote:Had a repair man out to fix my washing machine. I mentioned that I'd got a lot of grey sludgy stuff out when cleaning the inside and the filter and pipes. Also mentioned that friends had commented on the amount of soap suds visible i.e. you couldn't see the washing. He asked me how much powder I used and at the time I was using Fairy tablets - half tab for half load, one tab for full load. He said I should halve the amount I was using (not easy to break tabs in half - they crumble and make a mess!) Now buying powder and using much less in each wash. Washing machine works well, clothes are just as clean and I'm saving money!
Oh thats just reminded me, I forgot about that and have lazily just opened the packets and shoved them in recently. I had a similar experience myself when my washer smelt and had gunk in it few years back. Repair man asked me about how much powder etc and told me it was just manufacturers saying we need that much to sell more powder/tablets and that in actual fact what makes the washing detergents work is the reaction with water causes it to clean but the more tablets the less effective and the more mess of your machine .... so USE half. Whether he was talking rubbish I don't know but I didn't notice a difference in cleanliness/smell with only one tablet etc. Must start doing that again ... old habits die hard i.e. open the packet, shove them both in, turn on machine.0 -
Hi, so am I right in thinking what you were saying about Boots brands being as good as the real thing, that the Toni & Guy stuff in Boots is more or less the same stuff as TIGI anyway? I use TIGI, but if the Boots brand is the same, then I might as well buy those. Apologies if this is confusing.0

The boots 69p essentials shampoo is fantastic. You can even get it on bogof occasionally. It is great for frequent users and even combats dandruff better than some products specifically designed for it.
EVERYBODY serious about saving money should have a policy of trying 'own-brands' occasionally. The savings you will make once you have switched will make you mind boggle!0 -
MMm TIGI is marketed at the higher end of customers, but ill be using boots own now.... can i also ask, does anyone know the differences between hair straightners?
My daughter swears by her GHD @ £80, ive got £40 kodo ones, compared them by looks and theres not a lot of difference...
anyone know????

About the washing powder, when I get sent a '1 wash' sachet, I always get 2 1/2 washes out of it - that's up to the 50 mark each time on the measuring cup from (I think) persil.
I always have perfectly clean washing, even though it's Sainsbury's Basics Bio Powder0
