Yes, I second this, as about five years ago, Tesco mince pies, Asda mince pies and M&S mince pies were made by a bakery in the North West. Might have been Park Bakeries.

Yes it is, my sister worked there.
  • hi new on yer but been reading for the last 2 hrs. very interesting and informative. better than 50 shades of gray!!! any way I bought a blue whisling kettle from the 99p shop last week. I saw the exact same colour kettle in curries for £17. It was definately the same as I took my whistle in and it fitted the spout exactly and the lid lifts off completely just like mine. I also noticed that mine and curries doesnt come with a lead and a plug, you just fill with water and put it straight on top of the gas flame. shows you can pick up a bargain if you shop around.

Bosch is owned by Siemens. I work for Siemens. Siemens actually owns a considerable number of branded companies not just in the consumer market. They also own osram who make light bulbs for most uk supermarkets and Major DIY stores.

They are, and have always been, separate companies. They just work together on a couple of Brands.

BTW, having seen an internal memo, I can tell you that without the financial support from the Healthcare & Energy (non-fossil fuel) divisions, Siemens would be in serious financial trouble as all their other divisions are making ever bigger losses.

Separate companies, but jointly owning BSH, the company that makes the home appliances:

"BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH (BSH) is a 50-50 joint venture between Robert Bosch and Siemens created Europe's largest home appliance manufacturer. BSH's major appliances include dishwashers, ovens, microwaves, washers and dryers, refrigerators, freezers, and vacuum cleaners. It also makes such small consumer products as coffeemakers, as well as motors and pumps. The company's core brands are Bosch and Siemens, but it also sells goods under regional labels, including Balay (Spain), Coldex (Peru), and Pitsos (Greece), and specialty appliance names Gaggenau, Neff, Thermador, Ufesa, and Viva. Western Europe accounts for more than one-third of all sales."

You wouldnt be able to tell which cornflake was aldi or say kelloggs in a taste test so if its the same quality as the brands then why not buy it.

We did a taste test on Kellogs, Sainsburys and Tesco's on Special K & Honey Nut Cornflakes.

Could definitely tell the difference between the 3 makes and all 4 of us (Inc our 4 yr old and 7 yr old) voted Kellogs, Sainsburys then Tesco.

Sainsburys close enough to buy if Kellogs not on offer but we will not be buying Tesco ones.

All this branding b*ll-sh*t actually works:

We as a family did a blind testing of Aldi mayonnaise after a lively discussion about "pay cheap - get cheap - buy twice" and "you only get what you pay for" .

The adamant supporters of such sayings had to eat humble pie.

HOWEVER if they knew which one was Hellmans the taste test might have come out differently.

This is particularly true of drugs, where the placebo factors come into play.
Prince Charles really does "know" that his little ailments get better after a dose of homoeopathy.

Wines, especially sparkling ones, are another example - putting fizzy wine into a Bollinger bottle really does improve its taste - especially when the drinker is on their sixth glass:rotfl:.

Mind you perhaps the opposite can work - this cheap bottle of champagne has saved me the best part of £50 so I must think I can tell the difference between this and Cava?

[Went to a party where the "Kier Royale" was made from vintage champagne - that is conspicuous consumption only one step down from bathing in the stuff]
  • the value ketchup(21p) and brown sauce (30p) im more than positive that they are made by Heinz ( i only ever used to buy Heinz ) a defo know the taste and then i thought id start trying the supermarkets own brands and to my complete suprice i can honestly say there better also they are better in fat caloures etc etc also the tesco baby wipes they used to be (18p) now (46p) but still a bargin and they are quite a wet wetwipe lol ,
  • Then again, I was lucky enough to win a champagne tasting evening a few years ago. We started with a cava, which tasted fine. We then worked up through 9 very small glasses of increasingly expensive champagnes, and each tasted better than the last (and vintage tasted better than non-V) At the end, there was some cava left over, so we thought we'd have a larger glass of that. Problem was it tasted like vinegar after a few sips of Krug.

It hasn't stopped me buying "cheap" champagne / cava / saumur, but it means I do appreciate the good stuff once in a while ;)
