I've found out the other day that Kogan TV's are pretty much just rebadged Samsungs with a few more features and a far lower price tag, www.kogan.co.uk

Thanks for that. I've been eyeing them up on ebay, as remarkably good prices for what looks like a quality product. Will definitely be looking at purchasing one in the future.
New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!
  • My husband works for a bakery which makes cake bars for asda on there value and luxury range, they also bake for morrisons and Tesco. Each of there respective value and luxury are exactly alike. The cakes ae baked together with no differentiation other than the packaging/wrap
  • A lot of marks and spencers chocs and sweet stuff is made at the chocolate factory in Fakenham, norfolk, I have also bought stuff they make for morrisons and asda, I think all the bang on the door stuff and a hell of a lot of advent calenders and easter eggs come ffrom there as well. There was stuff on sale at marks for £9.99 at halloween time that I was buying at fakenham for 2.50 - bargain!
    Kinnertons. They make cakes too.

These companies are all Bosch owned.
Blaupunkt (Blue Spot) - Car Radios etc.
Atco and Qualcast - Garden tools.
    Dremmel - Small Drill.
Bosch (obviously) and Skil power tools.
Bosch, Continental and Neff - White goods (and Siemens have a close relationship).
Worcester - Gas and Oil boilers.

Bosch is owned by Siemens. I work for Siemens. Siemens actually owns a considerable number of branded companies not just in the consumer market. They also own osram who make light bulbs for most uk supermarkets and Major DIY stores.

Cakes - again own brand cakes are made by leading cake manufacturers, a few years ago wise's bakery were a leading supplier, in fact one Christmas the Marks and Spencers and the Somerfields luxury mince pies were the same receipe and ingredients. In a taste test, the Somerfields was ranked the best, and the marks one was ranked 8th. They were both the same!!!

You need to always be aware, tho, that suppliers of goods can change regularly, as can ingredients, as different grocery lines regularly go out to tender.

Yes, I second this, as about five years ago, Tesco mince pies, Asda mince pies and M&S mince pies were made by a bakery in the North West. Might have been Park Bakeries.

I used to work for a cake factory the chocolate fudge cake was the same in asda, tesco and m&s the only difference was m&s's icing was hand finished, same went for all the meringues, scones and chocolate !clairs the interesting thing was all the seconds were sold at local markets really cheaply but all the same ingredients no difference in any of them really only the fact they were slightly mis shaped.

And exactly the same goes for Aldi and Lidl. Same items as all the other supermarkets, made in the same factories - the only difference being that the price is likely to be around 25% lower.

Hilarious, isn't it, the way some people look down their noses at Aldi and Lidl (conveniently ignoring the expensive cars parked outside by people with more sense)? It's reached the point now when our local Aldi has a rather more upmarket clientele than the Tesco next door to it!

You wouldnt be able to tell which cornflake was aldi or say kelloggs in a taste test so if its the same quality as the brands then why not buy it.

Used to work next to Memory Lane cakes in Cardiff, you are right in saying they bake for lots of supermarkets. They used to have a place where you could buy seconds & overstocks, had everything from M&S to Tesco.
