Lidl's Mister Choc Choco Caramel bars are Mars Bars, but a lot cheaper, well I'm not saying they are the exact same product but I can't taste the difference!

yes ive noticed that as well, also dont lidl sell a snickers/marathon type bar
  • ^ yes they do. most supermarkets sell their own brand of bars such as Twix, Snickers, Mars, Bounty, Lion, Milky Way etc.

I've tried the ones from Aldi, Tesco and Sainsburys, and they've always been the same.
  • Hi, can you tell me which company supplies Wickes kitchens? They seem to be the only major kitchen company on the high street that don't offer a trade discount so I'd be interested to know if their kitchens can be bought cheaper direct from their supplier. (Particularly the Heritage range...) Many thanks, Caroline
  • hiya, im new, so not quite sure how all this works, but with reguards to wickes kitchens, try magnet, as i know there are trade stores around as my parents brought their kitchens from a trade warehouse and saved loads!

    .
    2) Boots own Crookes Healthcare, they make Nurofen, Calpol etc... best off with Boots own label rather than more expensive Nurofen brand...
    3) Panasonic make Duracell batteries. Panasonic also own/manufacture Technics.

Boots Healthcare International was sold to Reckitt Benckiser in 2006. Crookes was sold to Reckitt as part of that deal.

True Panasonic own the Technics name, but that brand is now only used for professional audio equipment (apart from in Japan and Russia). Domestic hifi equipment is branded under Panasonic.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

This can only be used for a "point of interest" thing, because we're talking about different specs and possibly quality control.

But, if you're buying and paying a premium for a Canon digital camera, you may be interested you're actually in all likelihood buying a Samsung.
Canon don't make their own cheaper cameras anymore -

This is what I've been told by someone pretty high up in a specialist camera retailing business anyway - so I might be wrong :rotfl:

Yes, you just might be wrong on this one.

Canon is one of the only manufacturers not to outsource, they actually still make a lot of their compact cameras in Japan.

    For example
    http://www.photographyblog.com/
Canon has announced plans to build a new DSLR and compact camera factory in Nagasaki, Japan. Construction of the new plant is scheduled to begin in January 2009 with operations expected to commence in December 2009. Around 1,000 employees will make approximately 4 million cameras every year. Canon have cited “continued growth of the global digital camera market and expected increase in future demand” as the principal reason for the new Nagasaki manufacturing base.

    Canon Press Release

TOKYO, July 7, 2008—Canon Inc. announced today plans to newly establish Nagasaki Canon Inc., a manufacturing base in Higashi Sonogi-gun, Nagasaki Prefecture, to boost production of digital single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras and compact digital cameras.

It's the same for virtually all the respected names we grew up with. Look at Philips etc. My first set of expensive/decent speakers were Wharfedale - now the name is a just a badge Argos put on the cheapest of plastic tat. :(

Wharfedale may be a cheap brand for dvd players etc. but they still make some of the best hi-fi speakers in the business. read reviews for their 'diamond' range of speakers in what hi-fi? and everywhere on the internet and you will see what I mean. I have a pair of diamond 9.1s and they are faaantastic.
    just my two cents...!

The above phrase is complete b*llocks.

There is no such thing as "one of the only manufacturers"

You can be "the only manufacturer"

You can be "one of only two manufacturers"

You can be "one of the few manufacturers"

You can not be "one of the only manufacturers"

Apart from that, posting proof of what a company is going to do in the future is not proof of what they are doing now.

Just because a company announces plans to build a factory to make it's goods, doesn't mean it is currently making it's goods. It could be outsourcing them now, but think building it's own factory will work out cheaper in the long run.
