You've had a number of replies suggesting things that you can do to try to narrow down what's happened and requests for additional information that might help people help you.

Your original questions about how long will it take to sort out and what is the process are very difficult to answer because different cases can vary a lot, e.g. depending on the amount of information available, the amount of investigation required, how much money is involved, how co-operative the people are etc. etc. It is particularly difficult to answer with the sparse information you originally provided.

Anyhow I hope it does get sorted sooner rather than later without you having to pay out lots of money and without making a difficult family situation even worse.

Finally, if you are going to share confidential information about your family it is not a great idea to use your own name as the user id on this site.
