my husband is just found out someone has taken a credit card is in his name but it isnt him weve reported it to the company which is egg.com do u know what will happen next

What did Egg say? they should investigate it but they may need a police crime ref number before they will do this. Have you reported it to the police?

It will probably take some time to do the investigation before his credit file etc are updated. How did you find out about it?

Was this a case of identity fraud or do you know who has taken out the card (a relative or whatever)

dont know who it is yet they wont say how long does it take to get sorted what will they do next

it was done by the internet wont that be hard to find out who it is what if they decide its our fault

Your patner should also check his credit file (through Creditexpert, Equifax or Callcredit) to see whether the card application is registered because this could damage his credit rating.

Also worth checking the report to make sure there are no other new accounts open in his name.
If he has been the victim of identity theft then he might want to look into registering with CIFAS

Egg will investigate it. Nothing for you to worry about at your side. They deal with this sort of thing all the time.

Once they're satisified that the application was fraudulent they should be able to remove the record of the search and the account from his credit report.

they have say though its our ip address but we havent applyed for a card with them.
