  • I had this last year, spoke to the card company and the credit ref agencies and the agencies put a note on my files saying the name had some fraudulant activity which will mean all credit searches get referred for manual checking(wont be a problem, may be subject to some security checks). Got a letter a bit after saying mbna had registered it with Cifas and that was the last I heard of it.
  • am worried though because they are trying to get us to pay it when it isnt us
  • can they do this
  • So someones spent on the card and not just applied?
If theyve spent on it and you are confident nobody in the house has applied for it and recieved the card it must of been ordered and intercepted.
  • the card was taken out on 2005 spent on it and have been making regular payments on it i think thats why they think its us and are trying getting us to pay do we have a leg to stand on

An IP address isn't necessarily unique, so they'll need more evidence than this.

Are they saying that the card has been used for purchases?

At the end of the day, if it wasn't you then you've nothing to worry about.

If your husband didn't apply for the card and spend on it then there's no reason to pay.

I would have thought it would be relatively straight forward them to refer to their payment records to see where the previous payments came from as part of their fraud investigation.

  • can we continue to tell them we wont pay even though they say its nt us and prove it ourselves
