'Settled down, engaged, married, kids... then what?' blog discussion

Oh Martin, you feeling down today?
I still have the 'when are you having kids' question so i cant answer really on what comes next, maybe where you going on your next holiday?0 -
As the mum looking after the children, I tend to find it's "when are you going back to work?", to which the answer "I'm not" tends to lead to complete amazement. Add to that, "I'm going to do a PhD" and you've got an instant conversation stopper, whether or not it happens to be true!
You'll also find that "Have you put their names down for school yet?" is very common by the time they're two months old!
But the focus definitely shifts to the children for a while...

Well I'm 52 and not in a relationship at the moment. Am divorced with two grown up children. I get asked frequently "have you got anyone?", or comments like "oh, you never married again then?". I am my own person, I have a really good social life and date if I when and if I want to. As for the future, no one knows what that holds. People need to get more interesting lives rather than pry into other peoples.Growing old disgracefully!0

following my engagement, i had 7 years of people asking when we were going to set the date for the wedding! it lead to lots of arguments between my husband and me (i wanted to get on with it, he didn't). when we finally did it, we didn't tell anyone till after!
now we've done it, and had the kids, our next step is to decide where we want to spend the rest of our lives, cos it certainly isn't here....0 -
I tend to be the one asking when I'm getting engaged, tbh. :rotfl:

Why haven't you weaned him/her yet?
Why haven't you toilet trained him/her yet?
Are you STILL breastfeeding?
Then...When are you having another one?
Why? Have you run out of things to moan about?
I'm looking forward to "When are you retiring?" - should be good!
Edit: Just to add, In my opinion you should never ask "when are you having children then?" as its not always that easy - I struggled with relations asking me while I went through 2 early miscarriages and wondered if I would ever have a baby, and a friend went through similar problems with her MIL asking.0 -
When are you going to see sense and get divorced?
