I have discovered that I need a licence, which will be about 7K, then the web design, set up, running, we are looking at another 4k on top. So, all I need is a lottery win and I can make some money! In all seriousness, I think I could realise a few backers if I have put together a serious business plan.

William, forget the lottery (although who knows). It is possible to raise the finance and barter for some of the things. You might find that you don't need to go to the banks.

£4k for a website???? Pick me, pick me William :) ... I can do a website and more for £4k (nothing illegal, immoral though ;))

    Keep the faith

  • good morning all. Well, a few hours sleep after watching the cricket, and enjoying the celebrations...oh joy of joy.

Before every web designer gets excited about the 4k price tag, I should explain a few things. That price includes design, running, marketing, promotion advertising, the list goes on. I think 4k is a low estimate. I agree with firewalker, that I can ofset some of the costs through negotiation and barter, and I will avoid the banks like the plague. I have spoken to a few people regarding raising capital, sponsorship, and collaboration and I am hopeful. Onward, ever onward. This is a work in progress, and its still in infancy (in fact I think its still in gestation period!)
A friend has asked me to source a tradesman (through my work contacts) to do her bathroom. I jokingly said that I would charge her a comission fee for this. She stated what her budget would be, and if I could pull it in below it, anything left was mine. Mmmmm, should I go for it?

Off to put up the new lights in the front room.

    Wish me luck!

William, if you go on the Matrix Board (under the Baby Business section) there is a post that might interest you (it is about website development). Apart from that, when you are ready to set out you idea you will get loads of different kinds of help.

Go for it - money can be manifested (and yes, I have come truely to believe this).

  • Have joined the dark side as you called it, and will look at the baby business section today. Light fitting changed and working. A cup of tea, some toast, and a read of the board seems in order.
  • another mental day at work with the Jubilee line shutting down for 2 and some hours. Oh the joy of dealing with that! More overtime tomorrow, another 4 hours. Wife has just told me that the car tax runs out at the end of february so will have to find 180 pound for that. Have set out the rough draft for the business idea. The basis still seems so simple, I am scared that I am overlooking something basic that will blow it all out of the water. Need a shower and a beer.
    Staying clean, safe and exhausted!

What do you drive? Do you know you can tax on-line for 6 or 12 months? Er, do you also need to plan for MOT? (and do you have a spreadsheet/lst/beermat of when your big bills are due???)

    Woo Hoo, overtime ... you're a lucky chap ;)

And if it is too simple or the masses think it won't fly, they will be 'man' enough to virtually slap you with a wet fish!
  • Good morning all. Late night and up early. Yuch. Anyhoo, work in a minute but time enough to read my emails! Recieved an electricity monitor from NPower today. That will help cut the cost! Will let the wife sort it out. Far too complex for a man to sort out! The car is the wifes, is a megane, 1994, immaculate, 30,000 on the clock, we do about 3-5 miles a year max. MOT last year we had to have a bulb changed in the rear light, and 4 new tyres and that was it. Been a good runner. The overtime will pay for the tax. easy come, easy go. Have snowball account for the CC's. Have a spreadsheet and budget organiser for the monthly accounts. Also I am impatient and want to really go for it this year. Well, enough wasting time, time for that second cup of coffee and off to work. Stay well people.
  • Morning all! Long day, too tired to write. More overtime tomorrow (another 4 hours) so another 12 hour days at work, equating to an 18 hours day if you include travelling time to and from work, and time to have a shower, see the kids etc. More tomorrow if I can stay awake...
