  • Just in after a real humdinger of a shift. Am seriously suffering with my feet. Suffering with plantar faciitis (correct spelling?) and then drop a bloody weight on my toe and think its gonna go septic. Not really an ideal situation for someone on his feet most days!. Have just soaked the foot in warm water and dettol. Stung like hell.

Have been to Poundland and picked up some notebooks, highlighters and will be busy making lists and ideas. Have done my snowball calculator for the next 12 months. This is the year.

Am really looking forwars to this christmas. For the first time since joining the company I have christmas and new year off!

William - I have lurked reading your thread from the very start and I am so pleased you are back!

Re. being on your feet ... not as long as you but I am doing stock management for 5 hours a day at present. I have safety shoes and am using thick walking socks to make them comfortable. I will not stop wearing them as I dropped a heavy metal plate (like an 18in square heavy baking tray) vertically on my big toe just before Xmas in 2000. Even though it is 10 years ago the memory of sitting in casuality for 3 hours, getting stitches (only 2) and it totally messing up Christmas is still vivid!

I guess with plantarr wotsit, you really need to be off to the GP and get referred for special insoles (was gonna write the technical term for feet, but I know I will get it mixed up with the technical term for teeth, so I'll not even try). For the toe, I find tea tree oil essential. Put 3-4 4drps in a bowl of warm water and bathe each day. If it is really bad, put neat tea tree on it and make sure that the area is covered. Tea tree is anti-viral and anti-fungal (works neat on althetes foot too) and can usually be found in the beauty section at Tescos near the spot creams (yes it does that too).
  • Awake at this ungodly hour getting an hours cricket before going to work. SAD I KNOW! My teams football match cancelled today due the cold snap and a frozen pitch, and staffing levels abysmal at work. MERRY CHRISTMAS! No snow yet in my area but it can't be that far away. More later after I have had a coffee

I hope you have a better day at work today. Snow has messed up my plans for the weekend but made myself go for a walk. It is beautiful out there. Big snow clouds gathering again. I hope you will have a good rest at Christmas and can spend more quality time with your family.

  • work was a nightmare. I honestly can say that after 26 years of working for the the underground, I am STILL amazed at the stupid questions I get asked. Why doesnt this train go to cockforsters? Because its a Jubilee line train and Jubilee line trains dont GO to the Cockfosters. But Why dont they?????????
I was so proud of the staff today for dealing with soooooo many !!!! ups and delays with the service on all lines because of the weather.

Ok, Worked until 7pm today. Had to walk home in the snow so had a bath, relaxed and now ready for my bed. Have worked on my snowballing figures and am starting to be happy with them. Really want to crack on this year. Not so happy with the cricket score though!

Doing well, William. As to the questions - never under-estimate the silliness you might meet. And you have six year olds so should be used to this kind of questions; or have you forgotten?

Have you and your colleagues not cultivated that 'smiley customer face' yet? Doing acts of random kindness however strange the request can make you feel happy ;)

Dont worry, i had an a level student fiddling under the desk one day and i asked him what are you playing with? He did not reply 'with a mobile phone' as i was expecting. He had been playing with something else a bodily part he he told me about rather proudly. For the rest of the hour i laughed, i howled so did the rest of the class. I can honestly say he will need therapy for the rest of his life he was too traumatised.

Sometimes i hang my head in despair othertimes i think if you can't beat them, you have to join 'em.

  • I have had a few nightmares recently. The government advisors stating that the base rate will probably rise to 5% triggered my thinking and my worries.

    The facts are frightening me.

I am 46 & I have a 186k mortgage on a fixed rate until april 2012. At the moment I am paying interest only.
U have 17.5k in credit card debts. The original plan was to pay as much as I could off the cards until my fixed rate ran out. Then arrange for the mortgage to go back on repayment and re-mortgage. I realise that I will probably have to extend the term until I am 70. Even with that extension I am scared witless that i will not be able to hold onto the house and meet repayments should the base rate go through the roof. This house is all I have for my family. This house is all I have worked for and all I have to leave them. I know I cannot change what has happened in the past, and I need to focus on the future, but this is scary stuff. I cant let the down.

I am setting aside a minimum of 500 a month towards the credit cards. I want to make at least 50+ month through ebay or other sources. I will sell my soul to keep my house.
