    Hi William,

Have just read your thread the whole way through and subscribed so I can keep up, phew!

I am so impressed with how long it has been since you have gambled and also at how hard you are working to improve your situation.

Don't beat yourself up though! You seem to be very hard on yourself when you are doing all you can and then some.

I know the topic has been covered before but would you seriously never consider telling your wife. I know from experience that people can be way more supportive than you ever would have imagined when you come clean on debt. If you told her now it wouldn't just be telling her you have a problem it would be you showing her all you have done to solve it and all you continue to do. Just think that it might help you not to have the stress of hiding this from her, and she could help with spending less and earning more if she only knew. Just an opinion though, you know her best.

Good luck with this all, I will be cheering you on all the way :)

Oh my gosh, it has been ages since i have clicked on your thread. Beautiful pictures. When my old college went on strike i was one of the nutters on the picket line. I felt like i was doing the right thing but i was able to as I did not have a family to support or a pension to worry about. I did not hold it against my dear friends that were unable to support the strike i was doing it for them.

Follow your heart and your head. You are the sort of person that always makes the best decisions William. hugs, sw.

    William,

hope you are well and just busy. We need you - need practical ideas about how to turn every £1 into £10 within a year. You strike me as someone who is invaluable in this kind of thing. If you have missed the background check my thread out.

Hi William and thanks for writing. I am sorry to hear that you are finding it hard to motivate yourself - you have so much to play for. And you are doing so well - please do keep going.

The numbers you saw on my thread can't be achieved through traditional investments - shares, bonds etc. But it is possible to do through trading of some sort - and you need high return only at the begining. That is when the amounts of money are small so one can embrace high risk opportunities. In fact, I thought that you are one of the people who could do it - million might be streching it but could make quite a bit. Don't have to start with loads - start with the same amount you did before your holiday but try not to take anything out; roll the profit.

Anyway it is late but hope you will pick up - the only way to lose is to give up, remember?

    see post below
  • Today I am 160 days clean.

My energy levels are low, my lethargy is growing and I feel like crap. My motivation is at its lowest level for a huge while.

The main reason for this is? One word...WORK. The situation at work is not good. The misinformation and gossip machine is working overtime. Not since 1993/94 have I felt so despondent about this company that I work for. Not since 1993/94 have I felt so scared regarding what the future holds. My confidence is shattered with the all the political infighting, the bullsh*t and crap that we are being fed from both sides.

Perhaps I need to concentrate on me and what my immediate needs are, which are finding additional finances and making sure that my family are secure.

I have been looking hard for investment opportunities but funds being limited to £200, so are the opportunities!

My wife purchased a 4 person tent from Amazon recently and weather permitting, my children and I will be sleeping out in the garden on Tuesday night!

I have overspent this month, probably more through being pi**ed off with the work situation than anything. A friend of mine recently went to Goodwood Races on the Friday. Her work was paying. She asked me if I had any tips for her...just said go with what you fancy and don’t expect to win. Then, on the Friday she called and apologised for being so insensitive.

I need to get my “self belief” and confidence back, but at times I despair.

I think I need to get the doctors and get some pep pills. Or perhaps I need to get my head together and refocus.

    Today, I will not gamble.
Actually, today I will say “f*ck all you doubters, I will get my self together.

    Hi William,

Yes f**k the doubters as YOU WILL get yourself together.

You have had 160 days clean and you will continue to have many many more. Continue to be proud of that.

You don't need pep pills from the doctor... you know what you need. You have said it... just refocus. You know you can do it and we all know you can do it.

I totally understand where you are coming from regarding work. I use to work for LUL/TfL a few years back when they were making the transition from LUL to TfL so I know what you are talking about re the political infighting. You need to stay positive throughout and try not to listen to the gossip machine - it will only make you feel worse.

Keep looking for some investment opportunities - £200 may not seem a lot but hey it is £200 and you can do something positive with it. Remember when you first started this thread... you didn't have £200 to invest ... but through your hard work you do now.
Come on, breathe for a bit and give yourself time to think about what is the best thing to do. There are loads of people here that will support you throughout.

Don't give up... I have faith in you.

Re investing: Did suggest to firewalker that banks and BP were good bets, then the tv announces that HSBC shares have risen by 5% as they announce a £7 billion profit for the past 6 months, and BP announces that its (hopefully at the 11th attempt) has capped that leak!

Stay strong William. Do not let the atmosphere at work get you down, focus on cycling and swimming and forgetting about stresses at work. I would love the courage to invest in something other than ISA's but i am such a coward. I am becoming braver and more able to cope with life from hearing of your experiences.

Both you and Firewalker are the same. You will do it. No doubts at all.

    hugs, sw.
