I just find it hard to spend £50 on food and alcohol these days, but I know if I don't go I will be jealous on the night when everyone in the office heads into Town, although on the plus side I wouldn't have to do the walk of shame on the Monday morning!

We went out last week because one of the guys, who is just lovely, is moving to another office. I picked the restuarant and it cost a staggering £30 each - nearly died! That plus beer (we always do a kitty) and taxi to mums cost me £60 - very very expensive.

As a result someone has suggested putting £5 away sept-dec = £20, which will pay kitty for Xmas dinner!

We are a sociable bunch and always have a great laugh when out, however I have had walk of shame once (still blush at what I said) and will never let it happen again.

But yes it is very expensive, and hard to justify!

Could you maybe explain that you haven't got enough money to split the bill and then make sure you pick stuff that stays under the £20 you have?

I've done that before. At first I was worried bout saying that but people are usually quite happy with that, in fact sometimes someone even says me too, so they're glad you mentioned it too!:)

i've also found that if you say up front that you don't want to split the bill and will just pay for your own things that it doesn't cause too many problems. I don't drink so i never thought it was fair for me to have to fund other people bottles of wine etc, plus i just couldn't afford to go out otherwise.
