Making cards - Ideas for beginners (part 4)

-
good morning everyone, I'm gettign very tempted to take the plunge and go shopping to get some very basic supplies to do just a couple of cards for mothers day and possibly a retirement card for my nan. Does anyone have a basic list of things I will def need?? I think I'm goign to go to the range, little further on the bus than hobbycraft but I can always walk into town and check out that other craft shop u mentioned glittermum. I also dont want to spend too much money (unless we won the lottery last night!! I havent checked yet) so it will need to b very basic list!!
Also u imaginative people, its DD1's book day tomorrow and they want her to go into school dressed as a character from a book, trouble is we have no dressing up stuff anymore as she didnt play with it, and I don't/can't use a sewing machine to make her anything so any ideas would b greatfully received!! most I can ome up with is going as matilda, wearing normal clothes and buying a red ribbon for her hair!!

Thanks for the link to the free bear Rusty.
Rainmac I don't envy you especially as they'll probably be bouncing around and full of it before they're scabby.
I'm a bad mummy - DD opened her games but I'd forgotten to check if there was any charge in the wiimotesOfficially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

Sammr - I meant it about sending you some bits (got masses of smallish card blanks for instance and loads of backing papers). PM me your address and I'll send them tomorrow. If I were you I would defintiely get some sticky pads to add dimension, and I started off using quite a lot of peel off stickers - they can be quite effective coloured in. A craft knife, strong ruler and cutting mat are useful, but if your pennies can stretch to a decent trimmer/guillotine it will be well worth it for ease! I can also let you have a few clear stamps - I've loads that I just don't use now!0

rainmac - Hope your boys get better soon& you survive!
My 2 had it last year & were over it by a week. Alex had it the 1st week of the summer holls then Emily got it 3 days before we were due to go to Skegness for a week! We still went, was prob naughty of us but she wasn't poorly with it. Kept her covered up, had to put big plasters on her back though to stop her scratching her back as she did have some big blisters. I'm amazed she has no scares, Alex just has a tiny dimple mark next to his eye...I'm so glad they had it togetherGood Luck with your 2 xx

Thank u so much for ur help and advice Glittermum, I think i might pop to the Range even if its just to see if they have the Docrafts mag in stock and have a look at how much things cost, see if I can get some bits to make a start today. I have some double sided tape which I got for making cross stitch cards and I brought some small foam pads, to raise the cross stitch off the card at the weekend so hopefully they will b ok too.
Thank u again for ur help

Morning ladies
Goodness me, some of you were up in the middle of the night, hope those of you who were feeling poorly, start to feel better soon.
Rainmac, hope you manage to cope - it's no fun being cooped up when the little ones are poorly.
Everyone else who's poorly hope you all start to feel better soon too.
Sorry, for not replying to everyone individually, it's my age and my memory is rubbish (I'm menopausal too, so that's my excuse! lol)
But seriously, you're all making beautiful things. I've not had time to make any cards recently, been busy with the nappy and towel cakes, which can be viewed on my blog.
By the by, I've had two Mother's Day cakes made for a couple of weeks now and the girl asked for Me To You bears on top with Best Gran on them, well today she cancelled the order, so if anyone is interested in them, please PM me.
I'm off to work now, hope you all have a good day,
Sal

Just a real quickie as not had time to read everybodies post as racing around this morning. My children have got to get dressed up today for world book day and they are doing animals out of books which may count as characters I'm not sure. DS we have just dressed in usual grey school trousers, grey top and I printed off a lovely photo of a face of a wolf which we then cut out and put onto a card headband to wear on his head. This is Silver out of beast quest books as he is besotted with them.
DD loves nursery rhythms so she is going as baa baa black sheep. Black top (her brothers so looks more like a dress), black leggings and sheep mask that we printed off Sparklebox and then coloured in black as it was white. Again we have put this on a black head band to wear on her head, I find my two hate masks so don't ever bother with them.
You could cheaply do a cat and they are in loads of books. Black, brown or white top and the same in leggings or trousers. Leg of a tight stuffed and fastened on the waistband of the trousers (don't fasten it to the top or it could dangle in the toilet - yuukk) cheap plastic headband in whichever colour you choose with triangles of card cut out and fastened on as ears. Hope this helps, must dash..........0 -
Rusty - thanks - that is so kind of you to offer!!! I bet they'd cost a fortune for the postage though - so it'd would probably work out to cost the same if I ordered them online. I am very greatful that you thought to do that for me but I don't like the idea of you struggling around town carrying all that paper!!! Sorry to hear you've been in pain again - hope you get it sorted soon. Your "Mom" card is great - love the gems! Your mother's day card is gorgeous too - I love the way you've folded your ribbon, and your dino card is fab!
Pointofnoreturn - crikey - you've been bying some fab bargains - I don't know how you're going to fit it all into your luggage!!!
Choccy - glad you're back -sorry to hearyou've been unwell.
CraftyJuJu - your sock buddy is superb - love the zip!!!!
Mary - I'm glad to hear you got your ear problem sorted.
Popkins - sorry to hear you've been suffering too. Your blog looks fantastic!
Dawnteabag - I hope your headache's gone now!
TiredMom - my son has gone into school dressed as a transformer today!!! He couldn't wait to show his friends.
Rainmac- sorry to hear about your sons. Try putting some bicarbonate of soda in theit bath water - it really helps with the itching!0
