Making cards - Ideas for beginners (part 4)

Having seen some of the cards that you guys have made, I am amazed at the talent. I work in a little village post office and shop so if I did manage to make any that were half decent, I could pop them in the shop to see if someone wanted to buy them. I am not sure whether it would be profitable though as I would probably spend more on making them than I could sell them for
Does anyone on here sell them or do you just make them for the fun of it?
Someone needs to look here :T:T0 -

Hi all, not been here in awhile! I had my birthday in July and my mum bought me a Scotch ATG 700. I've never used one before, and it doesn't come with tape - and I'm not sure what I'm doing really! Does anyone else have one?
I think I've worked out I would like the 6mm tape, as that's the size I use most often. Then I read something about an 'adaptor' to use 6mm tape. Is that right? So I need to buy the tape and the adaptor? I looked on eBay and they only seemed to have the dispensers. Froogle also didn't have many options - only large sizes. Does anyone know the cheapest place to get the tapes please?
How do they cut - does it do it for you?
Thanks for any help!
Hi Jaz
I have an ATG gun and I use the 12mm tapes, I always buy mine on ebay from this seller he does special postage rates for more than one roll, I usually buy 6 at a time. He is an excellent ebayer and is very prompt at sending stuff out. I have never bought any 6mm so don't have an adaptor. I think Craftygranny has one though. If you look on you tube you will find a demo on how to use one and how to fit the tapes. Once you have mastered the technique of using it you will never want to be without it, they are brilliant. I will try to find you a link
Here you are it has music so don't jump lol0 -
dragonllew wrote: »Perhaps you can use your paints to colour a digi stamp, loads of freebie ones here and then use buttons etc to embellishNuala Buala - Welcome too. Yes, you can use anything you want, the only thing about garden stuff would be if it died! I've used pot pourri before now & another girl used the net bag washing tablets come in to represent a goal net on a football card and another cut the ribbon hanging loops from a dress.
To you both - Go for it & do let us see what you make.Nuala Buala - love the idea of ''rustic'' cards.......wish I'd thought of that for some of mine. Pile of twigs when OH's been in the garden will never look the same again............lol
I've used buttons on a lot of my cards -had a jar full from Mum so it saved buying embelishments. Scraps of fabric can look good as well and its always worth keeping an eye on the ''freebie'' board for offers of samles.:)
Just wanted to say thanks a mill to you all for the input and encouragement ... and the chuckle Mary!
Just remembered I've got a few scraps of fabric and ribbon too. I've got a few half-baked notions floating around but not sure if they will work or if I will get around to doing them. I like the idea of using garden twine, wooden buttons, maybe a bit of gingham and twiggy leafy things. As I say, half-baked notions! But if a card gets made I will indeed post pics!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Welcome skysky69 - I just make cards for family & friends as their birthdays & celebrations arise and I don't always manage that! My dream is to get ahead of the needs so I've got a spare or two in reserve.0 -

Thank you very much! I see from that video that it's a glue, not a tape - so no cutting needed! It does look handy.
I have sent him a message to ask if he has any 6mm in stock.

Evening ladies.
Wow - this thread sure is busy. Hope everyone is enjoying the summer holidays and is at least finding a teeny bit of time for crafting!
Amazing lot of winners too - I swear when this summer is over I am going to get more organised and start entering challenges more often.
Camp Bestival was utterly awesome - the boys had an incredible time and are such cool festival bums! Ewan had a fall on Friday and did complain a bit about his arm hurting at certain times - took him to A and E yesterday and he's had a broken collar bone since Friday - bad mum award goes too....... Luckily there was nothing that would have been done and it should all heal in about 3 weeks but I still felt really bad.
Just made a mini book for my brother who's found out he's got to go to Afghanistan for 6 months - it's a reall shame as he has been working in London at the MOD and coming out later this year. I can't tell you where the pictures are though! It's pretty plain but I quite like it - I've had some of the scrapbooking sentiments and stickers for literally years so it was nice to use them up!
Welcome to all you lovely newbies too.0 -
Gosh Glittermum your son must be one brave little lad my brother broke his collarbone & passed out the pain was so bad. I'd send Ewan a big ((HUG)) but it might hurt.
Glad you enjoyed Camp Bestival - what did you do in the end for your fancy dress? Any pics?
Sorry to hear about your brothers impending tour.0
