Making cards - Ideas for beginners (part 4)

Irlip - Welcome! I've just looked at your nappy cakes and if you can make those then you will be fine at card making. My suggestion, for what it's worth would be to find a card that you like the look of and (sort of) copy it until you get going. Don't agonise over it too much JUST DO IT.
Most of the things you need to get started can be found on the internet or in pound shops! Pretty paper can be downloaded and printed off, as can images (as recommended by Soma & Dragonllew). Ribbon you must have from doing your nappy cakes. You can buy stamps and stamp your own but I'd try with free downloaded ones first if you've got a printer. You will need some good scissors or a guillotine and some double sided tape to stick things down. After that you can add whatever you wish, buttons, bows, leaves etc.
Nuala Buala - Welcome too. Yes, you can use anything you want, the only thing about garden stuff would be if it died! I've used pot pourri before now & another girl used the net bag washing tablets come in to represent a goal net on a football card and another cut the ribbon hanging loops from a dress.
To you both - Go for it & do let us see what you make.0 -
stamping isn't hard - you may want to book in at a local workshop just in case and they can advise you on materials etc. Whereabouts do you live if you don't mind me asking? you might have some lovely helpful craft shops near you. thinking of the cheapest way to start stamping - I would begin with free digital stamps try here. Print them out onto card as thin paper will wrinkle when you colour it. For the cheapest nicest colouring medium I would go for a set of watercolour pencils - I started with some WHSmith ones that are usually discounted in the back to school sale. Then you just need a cheap brush and some water to blend the watercolour pencils. Free backing paper can be found online when you eventually want to make a card. Hope this helps - feel free to come back with more questions.
I am near Aberdeen. What kind of card do I print them on to? Do I then cut round them and if I do what to I stick it on to the card with? If I did not use watercolours what else could I use?
Sorry for all the questions:o0 -
any card to start with. No need to cut round them but you can if you wish. You could use watercolour paints? felt tips tend to look awful0

Sorry another question. Do I just then print them on to the card I am making?0

Hi,
Can anyone help me please? sometime ago I thpught I saw it mentioned on here that there is a create and craft discount warehouse somewhere around the Warrington area, Can anyone tell me if this is correct. Or is there a craft store in that area and if so what is it called
Thank you0 -
Sorry another question. Do I just then print them on to the card I am making?
Depends how good you are at getting things to print just where you want them! I'd rather print them separate & stick them on but really anything goes.
If you use digi images you could colour then in the 'Paint' package on your PC before you print them.
No idea about craft shops near Aberdeen but you could look for Hobbycraft?

Thanks Soma - I've always wanted to try Iris folding, and now I know where to start.
Well done Wanna - be - rich and our other winner.
Yippee - I've got loads of Tilda Images coloured in but didn't have the papers to match. Therefore, I wanted to print some papers off or different digi's, but my printer has been broken for fortnight. My Dad came to visit today and mended it, Yippee. :jSo expect more cards on my b**g soon. :rotfl:

Nuala Buala - love the idea of ''rustic'' cards.......wish I'd thought of that for some of mine. Pile of twigs when OH's been in the garden will never look the same again............lol
I've used buttons on a lot of my cards -had a jar full from Mum so it saved buying embelishments. Scraps of fabric can look good as well and its always worth keeping an eye on the ''freebie'' board for offers of samles.:)I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !
