To tell you the truth I'm great at decluttering other people's houses, I just take all their rubbish back to mine.:rotfl:

    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to have a bit of a declutter at the moment but i'm really hopeless at getting rid of stuff even (maybe even especially) if i'll never wear/use it again. It's stuff at my dad's house and i've not really worn 90% of it since i left for uni 4 years ago.

I've been spending the morning making a start on clearing out my mum's stuff. We lost her to cancer just over a year ago. A lot of her things we've just left as they were until now but today i have cleared the makeup drawer and most of the scarves/belts.
There's far too much stuff for me to keep (guess where my hoarding instincts come from...) but i feel bad getting rid of it.

I found some nice silk scarves which i will keep a couple of but does anyone want one? I will try get a picture up but the bluetooth thingy is being a bit crap
I also found a huge bag of moisturisor/anti ageing samples if anyone wants them... If they work then everyone here can be about 16 again with the amount i found!

I'm sorry for your loss, MF. It's awful clearing away after a loved one dies. Jon had the same problem after his Mum died. It seems almost disloyal to give/throw things away, doesn't it?

Thankfully I've never been in that situation, but given how bad I am with my own stuff, I think I'd be terrible :(
    Hope you're okay MF xx

Sorry I too have been a bit awol - jeans today as I have been to my Nans and clearing out the shed - the house is empty so know how you will be feeling Marzipan - once again I have come back with a car full - the shed was sooooo organised though everything on shelves and wrapped in plastic bags, green house heaters , brand new deck chairs - the lot

Currently trying to sort out my bedroom - getting it decorated at easter and boxing things up to flog on the car boot which was planned for today but after last nights downpour it has turned out quite warm - there was even a huge blanket box in the shed- white melamine was wondering if I can paint/ cover it and I hate to see things just go to waste - even though I would fill it with carp - sorry treasure:D

Sorry for your loss Marzi. It must be so hard clearing out her things. But how about trying to sell a few pieces that you don't want and then buying yourself a nice piece of jewellery with the money you make?

Oh man, I've just had a clear out inspired by you guys and realised how out of control my food hoarding tendencies had got :(
  • Just saying hello before I catch up.
It's a lovely sunny day here but very windy. I love it when it's like this because when I go out for my walk I think the wind snatches sounds away and I sing at the top of my voice. It's very uplifting!

I'd like to ask your advice if I may.
This is the skirt that I got off ebay. It's really sticky-outy as it's got a lining that goes half way down with three layers of netting on the bottom and then a full layer of netting over that. I was thinking of cutting all the netting out of it but the material is pure silk so is quite floppy and I wonder if it will look too limp without it?
  • Oops, forgot the photo.
    Here it is -

daydream - that's beautiful. I'd leave it as it is, it isn't too "poofy" and looks fab.
