Makes sense to me PF.
And I'm the same with trends and stuff. I don't buy stuff because it's in fashion, despite loving fashion. I buy things and wear things because I like them and because they will last me through several seasons.0 -
Hello lovelies!
I'm having a domesticated day today, tidying, cleaning, laundy and sorting out some things that need ebaying.
DB I loved St Nicholas Market when I lived there, used to get most of my clothes from the stalls, not to mention the jewellery. I used to be heavily in to the Indie scene and the Thekla and Bierkeller were regular haunts back then!0 -
Ohh Thekla and Bierkeller are still popular with the students lol. Personally not been to either though
We'll have to do St Nicholas sometime when your down this way
Ugh, just opened the rest of my post. I have FOUR questionaires to fill in between now and seeing my ED nurse (not that I have an appt for that yet, lol). Fun times.0 -
I don't know if this is common knowledge but you can donate worn out stuff to charity shops, they sell it to the rag men. Rags bring in a decent amount of revenue. If you have a bag of rags just mark it as such, there's very few charity shops that wouldn't be grateful.
Seconding the recommendation for the Generation T books. I've not read the Subversive books, just flicked through them in the bookshop. I find stalking Etsy is the best way to get ideas, if you have basic sewing knowledge you can figure out how things are made. I have an 'inspiration' folder in my pictures where I have stolen photos from the internet, mostly Etsy, Craftster and Threadbanger. Incidentally Threadbanger is a brilliant place to go for tutorials and the videos aren't at all boring.0 -
I have been following this thread for a while now as I am in need of inspiration!!
I have been watching your blogs with interest and think you are have some wonderful stuff and ideas. I know that you should not follow the fashions per se but when something is 'in', like the vintage lacy dusky pink things at the minute which I love - I do tend to buy the odd bit.
When I walk into the high street stores I get completely bewildered and as such tend to stay out, the only high street store that seems to stock stuff I like is Laura Ashley, but I don't like their prices!
Most of my clothes come from charity shops, jumble sales etc and are generally very bland. There is so much black in my wardrobe it looks empty, I really need to wear more colour.
I think my problem is that I'm a bit older and much bigger than most of you and don't feel like I can 'get away' with many of the things that you lot look amazing in.
(I'm 36 and size 18).
Any ideas where I can go for inspiration to suit my size?
TIA xYou can stand there and agonize........

Hi Kandi,
welcome aboard,
sorry I'm not much use with advice at the moment but wanted to greet you. I'm sure one of the other lovely ladies will have some suggestions for you0 -
Mariel, thanks for the info re: rags - I never knew that ! I've used a few things for dusters but in future I'll definitely see if CS will take them.
I'm afraid my sewing skills resemble eddy the eagle's ski-jumping escapadesso I'll leave all the creative stuff to you wonderful ladies.

Hi Kandipandi! Thanks for visiting and saying hello.
We're a friendly lot of all ages, shapes and sizes.
You're certainly a fair bit younger than me. If you've checked my blog out you'll see that I'm also a lover of all things second-hand - jumble sales, eBay, car boots and charity shops are where I get almost everything I wear. I don't really think you have to "get away" with wearing things, if I love them then I always think stuff everyone else.0 -
I worked in a chazza for 10 years and they were always very happy to accept rags. Mary Portas also mentioned this and suggested you ask first and then always clearly mark the bag with the word "rags" just so nobody wastes their time sorting through it.0
