I'm sad to read you've had problems with JCP & the Travel to Interview scheme - although happily it looks like tronski, bless 'em, has sorted you now.

I've known cash advances of TIS to be paid by JCP in past - with just the need for the applicant to produce the tickets afterwards.

However due to the systematic abuse of this service by too many people - eg getting a cash advance for round trip to XYZ town for an interview & then not going to said interview - & the inability (legislatively) for JCP to get that money back, the many have unfortunately had to suffer for the actions of the few.

Sadly thats true :/ shame tho for a town like mine right on the doorstep of a big airport there isnt a system in place to help people applying at the aiport for jobs but ...
  • Just so everyone can bow down to her tronski has offered to give me a lift tomorrow and saved me having a 5 hour train trip and anyone that pays taxes the £48 train face the JC would have paid for a train ticket. I spoke to the guy on the phone and explained the situation and hes going to get me in and out ASAP :) and if i get there a little early be ready for me

Kinda amazing tbh that someone would go out of their way to help but ill wash tronski car, mow her lawn, punch myself in the face to say thanks =]

This is one of the loveliest outcomes I have ever read on this forum.

It's good to see genuine offers of help, instead of nasty cynical comments.

Wishing you the best of luck in your job flightboy :D

Is noone else absolutely appalled that someone can't raise £11 to go to a job interview and seems to think it is the government's responsibility to pay for him to get there?

What a society we live in.

Have you thought that perhaps, just perhaps, some people are out of work through no choice of their own, and they do not have a vast array of friends and family with money to hand.

So, they claim benefits from the governments funds, (having paid tax all their working life), and get just enough to feed themselves and pay their bills, but as the government likes to keep things tight, they don't receive enough money for "extra" things in life.

But the government reserves a little pot of funds, which they use to buy trains tickets for people to attend interviews; this way, the government can ensure that people who are trying to get back out of the "benefit hole" have the resources to do so.

I am glad that the OP has managed, with the help of a kind MSE'r, to arrange to attend the interview, and sincerely hope that they get the job and live happily ever after.

Sometimes the benefits system is questionable, but I think the governments policy of paying for travel expenses to/from interviews is fair.

Hopefully, you are all alone in being appalled. We are talking about £11 which is not many days equivalent in JSA. Just think, the state could pay him £11 and then not need to pay him JSA. I'm all in favour.

You're absolutely right, what a society we live in when there are people like you in it. I am appalled that the JC wouldn't give this guy the means to get to an interview, he's obviously trying. Sorry if you don't agree but the dole is an absolute disgrace, how anyone manages to live on it is beyond me.

Yay for tronski for saving the day and OP, I am so glad it all worked out for you
  • Why do some people find empathy so difficult? When I was a hard-up unemployed person I remember deciding that going to the library to get a heat was a better option than staying in to feed the electricity meter in my bedsit, though my shoes were worn and I worried my feet would get wet and I had no money to buy new ones. Now ( over 25yrs later) it seems unreal but it was true.

If you don't have £11 you don't have £11. Wishing it were not so doesn't help and it's better, surely to help someone earn than have the state pay them.

Well done to Tronski! Good luck with the job.
