Following websites are usually pretty good: deliaonline; bbcgoodfood; waitrose; agalinks.
I also like to google on the American sites as they have some different ideas.
    Google plum chutney.

You could just cook down the skinned plums with a little suger to make a puree (stones will ease out during cooking, so just sive at the end), and freeze in batches. Don't make it too sweet, as then you can use the puree for either dessert or savoury dishes.

Have a look at the following links:

    Hi Madmel,

There's an older thread that should help so I'll merge your thread with it.

There is only me and I dont eat cake or have pudding so any desserts are out. I could make some jam but wondered what else I could do. I saw a bbc recipie for plum compote here http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/plumcompote_88963.shtml

and wondered if I could freeze this? any other suggestions would be gratefuly received. I have bought a food drier so guess I could always have some prunes to go with the glut of apples I also have . ha ha

Hello Mrs Baggins, how about some plum chutney? Especially nice recipe if you print it off you can look at Mr Delicious while you make it ;)

I think I'll have a look for a food drier, I prefer my fruit dried as it's not so sharp. Now where do I find..............................

I stewed all of our plums down with a little sugar, froze them, and have some (defrosted obviously) on my porridge every morning. Might sound a little weird, but it is really nice, and saves buying berries, bananas or whatever to have with it. I also use some for desserts etc for when we have visitors (like the OP, we do not have them on a regular basis, as there are only the two of us, and we both need to watch our weight). However, when there are visitors, it is a good excuse to make a pie or crumble!

hey thanks both. I have all those ingredients for the chutney in cupboard and have just found a jar as well. By the way I recently bought my drier from westfalia i thinkit was about £30 or so and have dried bag fuls of apples already.

thanks dawn for the tip as well. I eat porridge most days but usually have it naked. Will try the stewed fruit on it

What about giving jars of jam/ chutney as presents? You can use old washed out jars and add a bit of ribbon.. My mum does it with strawberries when she grows too many (that would be every year). I hope you enjoy your plums!

Have just been down the garden and we too have a sudden glut of plums! DH made plum chutney two years ago...first jar was ok, but rest was set like concrete! It's still a sore subject with him! I think we may go down the stew and freeze route this time!

    Hi mrs baggins,

There's an earlier thread on using up plums that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.
