glad i searched and founf this thread....
i too bought a punnet of plums from the market.... they are very bland tastless even....
so i was looking for ideas of what to do with them.... its only me that likes plums..... so apart from making a small crumble with them
any other ideas...?Work to live= not live to work0 -
I once made some mini dessert pastries by halving the plums and removing stones and making small cuts into the flesh. Then I placed them cut side up on squares of puff pastry (cut the pastry round the fruit just a little so it would rise round the fruit). Put a teaspoon on sugar on top of each plum and baked as you would puff pastry. The sugar and juice from the fruit made a syrup and they were delicious both on their own and with custard or cream.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0

Just bought 20 for a quid at the local market, but most of them are squashy. I bought them to eat on their own, or with yoghurt, but looks looks like I will need to cook them now.
I have already got an apple pie for the next couple of days. Plenty of eggs, flour and sugar, but not much marge (got Flora tho).
Any suggestions what I can do, and what will freeze well?

I have a recipe for a spicy plum sauce that I got from gardenworld.co.uk. It requires 8 ripe plums.
I made it to accompany duck breast and it was delicious. I imagine it could also be used with chicken. I can pm the recipe if it appeals.

http://thefoody.com/mrsbpreserve/plumjam.html try this recipe out, ive never made plum jam before but have made apple n blackberry n it was delish!! no need for a sugar thermometer what you do is get a dish or saucer very cold and drip a little of your jam on it when you think its ready leave it a min or 2 and when you push your finger through it it should wrinkle up (technical term you understand
)then its time to bottle up :j

We have a plum tree in the garden and when I have too many to just eat I poach them in a little water and sugar and they are lovely with ice-cream as the liquid goes all syrupy and pink. You could probably freeze them at that point and use for a quick crumble later on. A bit of cinnamon would be nice added too. I only moved here last year so I found I had too many plums and no ideas either so I really must spend the next few weeks looking for easy plum recipes too so that it doesn't happen again this year, although I think it only gives a decent crop every other year. HEre is a recipe for plum clafoutis from JAmes MARtin, haven't tried it but it sounds delish.

Sounds good - but have never been able to stomach sweet and savoury together though. Thanks anyway x0 -
 as an afterthought, just to let you know if you are having a stab at the jam you dont need loads of equiptment just a large saucepan n wooden spoon, a cold dish, a jug to decant into jars(i use my measuring jug) half a dozen old washed out jars warmed up and sterilised in the oven, something to create a seal on top of the jam (i cut up the plastic bags from inside cereal packets) and my mum cut up an old pillowcase with zigzaggy scissors into circles to use as the pretty fabric on top held in place with laccy bandsproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0
