Quick plum jam recipe
weigh plums
put in same amount of sugar
cup of water
put in LARGE pan
heat slowly till sugar dissolved boil till setting point( test by putting 1/2 a teaspoon on a saucer if it sets to jelly in a few mins it is ready if not boil for a few more mins then test again)
if you dont want stones I mash the jam through a colander which gets most out
put old jars in oven till hot
put jam in jars as soon as you take them out and put lid on whilst still hot

Lamb braised in plum is supposed to be good. I got the plums the other day, but OH and me went for an indian instead. still got the plums (three of them) suggestions please"Don't critisise what people look like, how they speak, where they are from, and what they are called. They cannot help it.
Do critisise what they say, and what they do, especially if what they say is different to what they do. They can help that"

This recipe came from these very boards. I squirrelled it away to my Word folders (it's still in the folder marked "To Do"), but didn't note who posted it. Big apologies to whoever posted it the first time...
WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE
ingredients
750 grams of brown sugar
2kg dark plums (red plums are ok)
4 litres of brown malt vinegar
250 ml balsamic vinegar
2 kg white sugar
1 tin treacle
25 grams garlic crushed
25 grams of whole pepper corns
25 grams all spice
25 grams ground ginger (can use fresh)
25 grams cayenne pepper
one and a half table spoons of curry powder
two table spoons of salt
1 tin of anchovies
METHOD
Boil everything till stones come out of plums (no need to fish them out, just leave them in), turn heat down and simmer for an hour more.
Then strain liquid through colander.
You can also strain liquid through smaller strainer before bottling to give you smoother consistency (optional)
Sterilise bottles and lids and keeps for a long time and tastes better with maturity.
This is a multi-purpose sauce, great on poached eggs, in omelettes, in sauce and stews for more oomph, fantastic as a marinade - make it, you won’t be disappointed.
Not as fiddly as it sounds.0 -
I have got a bumper crop of plums from my tree.
Had to cut them all open as had problems with maggots..but the ones that are okay are lovely and ripe and sweet.
Do any of you have any nice recipes that I can use. Jam, crumbles etc or something a little different!?
Many thanksWhen life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0 -

Hi, plum crumble is lovely with fresh plums. That's what we're having for tea!
Put stoned plums in a dish, sprinkle with demerara, and cinnamon, and cover with crumble mix. No need to cook the plums first.
Enjoy!
