I'd say Egypt was fine myself, but if you have niggles, how about Turkey or Morrocco?
A similar feel to Egypt, but if it's your first time os with him, might be a nice way to ease him into the experience. Just make sure he sits on a camel whereever you end up! (& get the camera ready BEFORE he sits, they don't half whiff!)

You could go to Norway, it's meant to be beautiful. And he could learn all about Viking history.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I am planning a holiday to Egypt in Nov/Dec and am playing it by ear as regards the FCO guidance.
I agree with BS - the safety issue is a judgement call that you should balance with what you know about safety in the UK. London has seen some pretty devastating attacks and so I'm not sure that the British Museum would be any less a danger than Egypt.
The armed guard business is intended to offer additional security in a country that is dependent on tourism for its economic survival and so can't afford to take chances with public perception.
Personally I won't stay away from either Cairo or London unless I am presented with more evidence than is currently available, but that is absolutely a personal choice and I wouldn't advise anyone else either way.
I always check out Last Minute.com, thomsons, thomas cook and teletext websites when comparing prices. Hope you have a good holiday whatever you do....

Oslo is a suggestion.
https://www.norwegian.no fly from Manchester to Bergen.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
You'd need to be aware though that Oslo is massively expensive!0

Although according to Virtual Tourist there are warnings to be had about going to Oslo too. Perhaps we should all stick to Bognor Regis :rolleyes:2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

It always is a judgement call. I've been to the Middle East a few times. It's always going to have warnings posted on it due to the nature of the situation out there. There are lots of places in the world where you can run into serious trouble if you don't use diligence and common sense. I've travelled to a fair few countries on the "warning" list and tbh, have never encountered any problems at all.
The main thing to remember is that situations can change very quickly out there and so make sure you are following any current advice.
As I posted, I'd be more worried about picking up a tummy bug than any local trouble"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I agree with other posts that it is not an ideal place to take children. We went 13 years ago on an overnight trip from Cyprus and spent the day seeing the pyramids etc. Was a fantastic trip and am glad I went. We were given a food parcel for lunch with a drink also, AND told under no terms must we buy a drink whilst out and about. There are lots of beggers both adults and children which can be upsetting to see. My first trip abroad was at Eighteen when I paid for myself to go. Parents could not afford to take us.0

Thanks for all your replys and advice.
I have spoken to my son and explained the situation. I told him we could go when he's a little older.
I gave him the choice to pick somewhere else and he said disneyland. Would like to take him there but i think i would like more time to plan that trip as its once in a lifetime holiday. Maybe disneyland in a couple of years.
He said other places he would like to go are France,Italy and Brazil ( as you can see he loved the world cup when it was on.he he)
I want this trip to be educational and fun. Will look at Oslo, France and Italy. As regards my budget, i haven't got a clue. I'm not even sure how much spending money i need to bring with me. Would like to stay somewhere that serves breakfast. Maybe somewhere that has lots of restuarants near by.
God, i sound hopeless don't i? sorry.Shannon x0
