Hi there! This is the Daily Thread forTuesday 23nd February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good/COLOR]

Morning. :cool:Back to work day after 6 days off

OH had a pretty good birthday and enjoyed the day which is the important thing. I put in a superhuman bloke effort. Cooked up this which is really quite good and not to difficult. With some jacket potatoes, but cut them almost 3/4 way through in slices and cover with olive oil and salt. Very nice. Money Saver. Use Bavarian parma style ham from ALDI only 79p a pack. Use Hard grated cheese in a tub from the pasta section again saving £s

Still cold, off to Norwich for work tomorrow, so hoping I don't get stuck there in the snow. Long way to go mind.

Had a meeting at the bank yesterday as they wanted to save me money. Not a chance, all their products were more expensive and they failed to deliver.

Well. Hope you all have a good day....

Hi N9eav - hope going back to work is not too painful!

Hi everyone else. I've been MIA for much of the week since our return from the UK. The time just seems to rush by with barely a moment to take a breath. I hope you are all doing well; I will try and catch up with all the recent posts on here.

I think I mentioned in my last post that my DH used the local ATM here a few days ago, and only got €20 of the €300 he had asked for. The machine is attached to the post office so he reported it straightaway and was told to return yesterday when the machine would have been opened. Needless to say, when we went down, we were told the machine wouldn't be opened until this afternoon, so we have to take another trip down there. I'm just glad we're not starving to death. If we'd been desperate for the money, it would have made for a difficult weekend.

We are progressing with the renovations here - well, DH is, and I'm constantly being interrupted to lend a hand - otherwise known as 'helping'. I've been warned that the kitchen will be tackled next month which involves taking down the ceiling that I've managed to stall for a few months. I think it is now inevitable, and I'm so dreading the mess and upheaval. I know it will be worth it but, sometimes, I just wish I was Samantha from Bewitched, and could just wiggle my nose to get it done! Still, we have lots of guests coming over during the spring and summer, so it needs to be done and will make the house so much more welcoming.

We've had strange weather here since we came back. On the same day, it can be bright and sunny in the morning and, by the late afternoon, it can be pouring with torrential rain. It has warmed up quite a bit, though. I thought the winter was dragging on here, but I can't believe that parts of the UK are still being affected by snow. I think we'll all breathe a sigh of relief when spring is finally here.

Well, dinner tonight will be sausages, jacket potatoes, and baked beans which we brought back from the UK. The French just do not know how to bake a bean, so we stocked up on a few tins before we came back, along with lots of other essentials like PG Tips! Our visitors will be instructed to keep the supply of teabags going for the next few months.

Well, I'd better go and get DH up - he's working on a built-in cupboard under the stairs which will be great when it's done. To think that we didn't even have an internal staircase at one point, just a rickety outside ladder to reach the attic space, it's surprising how much we've achieved. I'll post before and after photos when it's done.

Well, I hope you all have a great day. (((Hugs))) to all those who may be unwell or anxious, hello to any newbies, and congratulations if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary.

  • Good Morning Chums, wide awake, so I thought I'd just as well get up .I have the school run this morning with the boys, and it looks damp and wet as usual.
I have even beat 'Basil'this morning .I have put his breakfast out on the flat roof of the bathroom all ready for him,he's got some finely chopped bacon rind as well as some bread crusts and hopefully he won't get in such a cross state when he wakes up and wings his way up the garden.
Craft class this afternoon, and one of the ladies has a birthday todaya soI may knock up some 'Twinks' when I get back from taking the boys to school.
Uni was good last night ,essay has gone off to Canterbury to be marked, so that's another one out of the way.
Steak and salad for dinner tonight ,I had a good root around in my freezer and I have around a good 10 steaks in there so a mid-week treat for me with maybe a nice sauce to go with it I think,I'll have a surf on the net to find something different later on.I hope everyone has a good day and for those of you with snow still keep wrapped up warm
    take care

I have been updating a neighbours laptop for her, as she only uses a dial-up connection and could not get itup to date, it was about 3-4 years short of downloads. Almost finished now, which meant I could not be on line on mine as only have a single port wired router here, so only caught up with Sunday and yesterdays thread just before I went to bed last night.HSoops_2622.gif

Time is fast running out here, we are back in the UK by mid-March, and then a very hectic caravan rally season organised. Moiliere will be about 40 miles from you the last couple of weeks in June. All but one of the pelmet pieces got fitted yesterday, so will take some final piccies of the kitchen and add them to the FB link. We have got the next two nights booked with the next door and next door but one neighbours to play a card game we play in the caravan called Skip-Bo, which keeps us entertained. Thursday we are off to the local bar for music, food and a drink or two with friends. Last night the next door but one neighbours came round as their brother who had come out to stay with them, who we know, hadn't seen a Wii before so had a silly wii night, on coffee and cola!

Going through and using up from the freezer where we can. Did manage to make the Tuna pasta bake on Saturday with a tomato sauce I had made and frozen, and DH declared one of the best I had donewoohoo2.gif. I have a nice piece of white fish in there which is ready for using, so will make myself a fish pie, and probably a portion or two for the freezer too (DH doesn't do fish!)

tea.gif is empty so better refill it.

    Take care all - DG

Hi Donny-gal - if you have the chance to visit when you are back in France in June, it would be great to see you. Let me know and I'll pm you our address and tel number. The house should be really up together by then, fingers crossed!

JackieO Enjoy the steak nights :)

Good news - DH got the job he went for last week :j:j:j:j He starts the first week in March :T

Feeling great about going today as the first day is always the worse I think. Sandwich out of the freezer and lunch box packed with a Twink, 2 kiwis, some chopped tinned pineapple in juice and a drink of water so all set.

Tea tonight is meatballs in HM pasta sauce with spaghetti which I'll make when I get in later on. Ironing tonight as well.

Have a lovely day and big hugs to those who need it xxx

    Morning all,

Seems cold here this morning, i see we are all due more snow, I cant believe some you still have loads of it.

Yesterday OH and I took down an old manky cupboard in the kitchen, and filled loads of holes, the previous owner nailed in six inch nails when he wanted to hang anything, so there were holes all over, today I shall rub the walls down, and the first coat of white paint on them, its khaki green at the moment _pale_, hopefully the electrician is coming this mornng too, which means we can crack on with dd's bedroom.

I have a wash to put on in a moment, and dinner tonight will be something with beef mince, was thinking cottage pie, but might do a quick chilli instead.

I ordered a carbon monoxide tester last night, I see another poor person has died from it, I have been meaning to get one for ages, £14 delivered from Ebay, so not a bad price.

N9eav, that recipe looks great well done x

    Have good days all xx

Morning everyone, hope you're all well today?

There's been another light dusting of snow here overnight and I'm going to have to scrape the car this morning before I get to work! When's Spring coming?!

Woke early with 100 things running round my head that I've got to do by the end of the week. I think I'll have to make a list to keep me on track.

Lunch today will be a sarnie made with bread that was RTC in Tesco last night. Going out for a bite to eat with some friends for a catch up this evening and DH is going round to catch up with a friend's DH while we're all blethering. So it's a no cook day here

    Have a good day everyone!

    Morning all

Love and hugs to those who are sad or poorly.

Cold, dry and bright here this morning. OH already up and long gone had an early start this morning and I managed not to wake. Have now had breakfast of porridge and a coffee, the packups are ready - so just need to dry my hair and put on my face (that bit takes the longest trying to make it look decent!!) Last night's dinner was roast chicken, potatoes, veg and gravy.

OH has a meeting tonight so dinner is just for me and the boys me and DS1 will have lasagne and salad and DS2 will have sausages, pots and veg.

Will empty the WM shortly and put on the airer to dry during the day.

Not much other OS to report so will pop off now.

Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

  • Hi Guys!

Thanks for all the lovely messages yesterday. They were all very appreciated. The day went well and couldnt of asked for better. There were 231 there and very overwhelming with the amount of people who attended, but it was lovely to know how many people loved him.

I am full of cold today and the nurse is due soon for a lovely injection. Really not feeling good and my throat hurts and ears when I swallow.

WM is on and OH has got Pork Chops out the freezer to defrost for later. We will have chops in mushroom soup, mash, cabbage and carrots and do a portion for the MIL.

Noticed that ZippyChick is our new board guide for OS:j:j:j...congrats!!

    Hugs to all.

    Morning

Had a terrible night - feel like i've barely slept with the cramps in my hip and knee but as my wrist has started playing up again (tenosynovitis) i have made another appontment at the doctors so i'm there tonight.

Money I was expecting in yesterday still isnt in today but I have a feeling this particular company has changed its payment date as it was the 29th it was in last month but they apologised and gave a reason for the delay.....wonder what this months excuse will be!

Can't really think of anything os - I have left over soup which will be used up or frozen in portions today. I'm going to take some pork steaks out of the freezer for dinner ehich I think we'll have will mash sweetcorn and gravy. Other than that i feel like everything is upside down but i'm just too tired to care!

Really hoping for some decent medication for the doctor....I haven't had a decent nights sleep for months!

    Have a good day
