np, we're just noting how badly it performs in independent tests compared to the free ones.

you are perfectly entitled to spend your money on something that detects fewer viruses if you so prefer :)

    Hi JasX,

The site you referenced has Symantec / Norton as their 2009 product of the year!!!

I would strongly recommend you look again at Norton - they did loose their way but have improved dramatically!

I currently use several different AV products and since NIS 2009 - Norton is once again a product to be recommended.

Products I currently recommend to customers:

    AVG
    AVAST
    MSE
    and
    Norton

I currently run all of the above on different machines / or different O/S instances when dual/multi booting. Note: Don't run multiple AV products on the same instance of an O/S this will cause performance or other issues.

I have not personally tried NOD32 or Kaspersky but have heard good reports for both of these and they are on my list to try, I just do not like recommending something I have not personally used.

A lot of people now have a couple of machines at home and I would recommend using different AV products on each as this dramatically increases your protection.

Free AV software is good however do check the licence limitations - these are mostly for home / non-commercial use only.

As always search for bargins before buying software - and use your credit card for additional protection incase the offer turns out to have been too good to be true!

    Shaun

EDIT: Before purchasing Norton - use the free trial first, not everyone likes the same software.
